And look at the penetration into the markets in those countries. It has gone backwards. Nuclear powered generation reached its peak in the mid90s and has been going backwards since. In every country you named nuclear powered generation is subsidised by the government.

No factually incorrect. The CSIRO Gencost report includes maintenance and depreciation. The AEMO has costed the infrastructure required for renewables distribution and in every LCOE study renewables are significantly cheaper than fossil fuels or nuclear. What study are you referencing to support your claim nuclear is cheaper?

@daniellebcooper7160 So a scientific report authored by economists and engineers is less trustworthy than a 5 minute YouTube clip by the centre for independent studies. Right got it.

And your evidence for this claim is.

@450tank According to the Atomic Energy Commission nuclear power peaked in 1996 and has been decreasing ever since. As new reactors come on line more are decommissioned. Don't take my word for it, look up the data yourself.

@ekka6560 That's not evidence that is personal opinion (which is fine, you are entitled to it) and utterly worthless as an argument.

@450tank Yes I didn’t suggest otherwise, COP24 did have 20 odd nations agree to increase their nuclear capacity. It is just that reality doesn’t match their rhetoric. Currently nuclear supplies about 9% of the world’s electricity needs. Tripling it will no doubt assist our needs. Energy in Australia has increased for two main reasons, the war in Ukraine which significantly increased gas and oil prices and industry infrastructure maintenance costs. It has little to do with renewables as they have help keep price increases to a minimum. No economist I have read has blamed the cost of living increases solely on energy bills. The supply chain issues and demand after the Covid recession and other multiple issues all complicate this. Spending $billions of taxpayers dollars on creating a nuclear power industry in Australia will not lower prices or increase our standard of living. This is not my opinion, it is the data the CSIRO, the AMEO, and numerous LCOE studies shows.

@450tank Because old coal fired power stations keep breaking down and going offline.
