Austin has a combat badge and a Silver Star and among other achievements was Vice Chief of the Army and commanded CENTCOM.

Hesgeth was awarded a Bronze star and an Army Commendation medal and served in Afghanistan, so both have military service, but I fail to understand why Hegseth is more qualified. Austin was a general Hegseth made major.

@jcindahouse All you are displaying is political bias. The surrender in Afghanistan was initiated by the Trump administration. The Trump administration had reduced US troops numbers in Afghanistan only a few thousand that were insufficient to defend an airfield. You are just factually wrong in every single opinion. It is as if you are completely uneducated on the subject.

@jcindahouse Yes, he had cancer and received treatment for it. His duties at that time were delegated, but yes, he should have been more informative about the situation. Are you suggesting everyone with an illness should be sacked from their job, or is your opinion just based on partisan politics?

@JeffreySmith7777 I completely agree. He has some qualifications (made Major) and experience with operational service. No doubt. I didn't question his ability, I question your absurd suggestion he is 1000% more qualified than an ex general with a combat badge and a Silver Star.

@Phantom1127-ck3qr I have no understanding of what any particular type of attire has to do with fighting ability. Soviet women battalions fought as hard and as bravely as any male only battalion. The did however suffer higher casualty rates, but that is their choice, not yours.
