  1. The Med campaign is often overlooked, specially in the US, but was absolutely vital. It was in the Med that the US learned to fight a modern war, that combined allied air operations were tried and tested, that allied massed amphib and air drop invasions were trialed, including some of the equipment that would be used in Normandy. The Med showed the allies what worked and what did not .
