If the gun was patented in 1812, then it would have been useless to Napoleon. By 1812 he was allready on his way to Russia. Think on how long it would take to remake gun and ammo factories to make the weapons and ammo, then the time to make 400.000 rifles plus 10-20 million rounds. At the same time, France would have to keep some of the old ammo in prodution, to keep the units not upgraded stocked. It would be a finantial and logistical nightmare.
