People like to call hiphop/jazz/blues etc “B lk music…” and they say we’re “appropriating their music” when we listen or write music with influences in those areas. The thing is, whether or not you buy into that stuff being their inventions (I certainly don’t, and if the tube will let me I can explain), all of this music that is allegedly “Bl k” was all written in our languages, performed/recorded using electronic Western instruments brought to us by the Whte man. I got my start playing guitar with blues music like Stevie Ray and Jimi Hendrix etc., and people like to pretend I’m “not acting Whte” because I did. Nonsense.

To say that we are taking from them is antiwhiteism

@JamesCandy-d3o hip hop doesn’t have to be about “gangster culture.” It’s just that it is because it’s dominated by B lks. Remember, before the internet was robust, it took re gime backing to get popular, and what else would the re gime push as “cool” if not antiwhteism?

@zonefreakman basically anything they created that wasn’t made on crude flutes and bongos made out of rhino skin in an African desert was 100% influenced by Whte people and our music and electronic equipment. I’m exaggerating just a little but not by much

@zonefreakman way to totally miss the point I’m making 🤦🏼♂️

@randomusername5242 “African music” is bongos and not much more

@randomusername5242 I disagree but it doesn’t matter if they did, their ideas of music have been shaped by the Western man
