@thesun-N-moon8885 No kidding! I had a friend who had a Geo Metro (remember those????) and I felt like I was riding inside a "bubble" when I was with her!

I planned on retiring at 62 (this year), but "post C-19", my landlord for the past 16 years decided to sell the building. Immediately upon buying it, the new owners (who are rich as Roosevelt, by the way) raised my rent from $940/mo plus utilities to $1800/mo plus utilities. Long story short, I earn less than $1600/mo so guess what? It looks like I am going to be forced to live in my car - and I dread it! I have been looking on line and the average rent for a one bedroom apt. is around $1500/mo in my area. Even people that are renting just a room are asking for $1000/mo! How the hell am I supposed to save money when I have car insurance and other necessities to pay for? And God forbid, should I have a major health concern (in addition to chronic asthma), I would be totally screwed. I have to downsize by getting rid of nearly everything I have worked my ass off for my entire life! It's just NOT FAIR!!! I've always been a person of modest means, but the cost of living in this country has blown way out of proportion and it's not sustainable. I no longer have the energy or the stamina to take on a second job and work 60 hours a week. I am just burnt out...

Having children and expecting them to take care of you in old age is VERY short-sighted. Not only that, but it is a very selfish reason to have children.

Not where I live. I would feel unsafe parked outside, despite the security cameras. We have several homeless guys in my town that hang out in the nearby parking lot. I wouldn't take that chance being a woman alone in a car.

The main reasons why employers give a hard pass on hiring older people are: 1 - their salary expectations are too high 2 - their proximity to retirement age 3 - lack of confidence in their ability to adapt to changes in the workplace and learn new skills, and finally, 4 - attendance issues resulting from age-related health conditions. Employers typically assume that older employees will be absent more frequently than younger ones. Facts.
