  1. I can't nag the feeling that one day, we'll miss X for its ability to run remote desktop environments. That is, having a thin client and all processing to be done on the server. That is still a thing today and will surely continue to be.

  2.  zz zip  It's a slippery slope. And by that I mean, they have to do it, once you do something in a way, it's basically impossible to go back. That's why we have Wayland and no X12. So they have to keep and maintain the security. Yeah, the other features are slower to come, there's some struggle. But that's why we didn't had it before, because it was hard to make it. Nevertheless, this is progress.

  3.  @KookoCraft  I think you are kind of confusing the terms. It's called a patch, but it's akin to a plugin, module or DLC in gaming terms. And the idea is that it's easier to add than to remove. So barebones base + pick and choose your features via patches. All in source code so they're compiled and have no runtime overhead. Yeah, it's not streamlined enough, you don't have a one-click or one-command install that will also bring all the patches, so I get that it can get to be tedious and a bit annoying for some. But it's not THAT bad. And it has its reasons.
