Since input was asked, please, let me (I also posted this on Luke's video):
Gemini and Gopher are a total waste of time and effort (and quite stupid because of that) since they offer absolutely nothing that HTTP doesn't have already.
Site owners who care about that can simply make their websites in a clean HTML. Yeah, HTML is a bit more verbose, but it's not that atrocious. An HTML equivalent of what DT showed in gemini would be less than half of what he showed as the source HTML code for distro.tube .
Surfers who care about that can have javascript (and other things) disabled and only enable them by default as needed (corrected in the edit). I will concede that the browsers nowadays are doing it wrong by having everything enabled by default. If anything, all the effort should be in making a nice, easy-to-use interface for modern browsers to have everything disabled by default with easy toggles, like a checkbox in the status bar or something for enabling JS, external JS, cookies and so on, if you deem that you'll benefit from it.
