  1. Yup! And not just there, but everywhere there's any sort of problem solving or tinkering with. The only places (cannot find a better term) where it's not needed is in (usually) tedious, repetitive well-defined tasks. Or by being a soldier who has to strictly follow orders. But even in those cases, you need to have a desire to do better to improve yourself and the way the task is done, in order to advance to a better position. And nobody will spoon-fed you that.
