@OutLanderUSN I think that JetBrain's model is pretty good. You pay at one point (you can make it subscription, but you don't have to). You get the latest version at that time + whatever releases for the next year. Which should also include minor/security updates that come even later, though I'm not 100% sure. Maybe it can be a bit better defined, but, yeah, it would make sense to have a way to rebuy it (without you going out of your way to do so) after some time has passed and/or some notable improvements have been made, to keep the ecosystem healthy.
