  2.  @weirdo1060  Yes, but not because the US must ideologically have an independent Taiwan. Instead Taiwan is an effective proxy-buffer for offsetting China's dominance over it's neighbors, for achieving near total control of the sea lanes, resources, and mineral rights in the South China Sea.
