  1. American style 'parties just can't be a central litmus test for anything, since they typically are such poorly conducted nonevents. Standing around with a drink and bs-ing with strangers is such nothing burger, compared to how many other cultures throw entertaining get-togethers. Most any sensible extrovert is stressed about having to show up at yet another meaningless social obligation.
