Because their experience of genocide, war crimes and atrocities. They contacted NATO to find an alternative to the war in a neutrality status or something else for Ukraine but they failed. Still they sent an open letter to Putin opposing the war in Ukraine. NATO knows very well that Russia chose to fight this type of war because it is superior to NATO forces of the similar type. Any type of military response of NATO will mean escalation because of the next level of weaponry and warfare. The complex upbringing and KGB experience of Mr Putin may enable him to use the Cold War western politics of eg Reagan against the West today. Also he is an expert in regime changing without war and violent external influences . This time it seems Mr Soros had it right. Supporting populist authoritarian regimes in power ensured the stability and power of the communist block.

  10.  @a0flj0  Russia could easily attack NATO till now. It did not do it. Seeing the lack of reaction of NATO at fighting at its borders me in their place would decisively attack Ukraine with missiles and finish the problem quickly. I hope that part of the alliance is able of such a performance simultaneously in Asia.
