I am 70, I spent equal times of my adult life in the Soviet Union and in the west. For sure, my life in the Soviet Union was the best. it is not because I did not find my place in the western society-quite the opposite-I had a good paid job, found new friends, was and still am active . After thew three years on nonsense and tyranny by the government , we see where the west goes-dictatorship. There is no point to talk about socialists countries as dictatorial.

@xmindk everyone can have an opinion, you too.

The world needs more Jordans :)

@Bobmudu35UK at that time I heard only about Canada which invited educated professionals to come and work. I have lost my job thanks to perestroika and there was not much choise. You wasted your sarcasm.

True, I remember that.

@johanswede8200 how many millions? You know the number from one book by Solzhenitsin? I suggest you learn other books with real numbers.
8
@johanswede8200 quite opposite. But one can find facts supporting one's views, here is the problem)

@lembergnative7731 what a rude question! I am sure you are not from Canada.

@andreeaalexandru7811 simply let them read original works by Marx and Engels and make their own conclusions.

it is interesting that the western people see dictatorship only abroad. Do not you see it in the the west? Especially in the last three years? democracy disappeared from so called democaratic countries like Canada, Germany, NZ, Australia? can we say what we we are free to express our opinions? No, you can lose your job and even go to jail. For the peaceful protest people go to jail, for the supporting protesters we can get our bank accounts frozen. Try to say something against the current agenda....

at 29:12 this so true about how the Americans are seen in the other parts of the world.
1
@andreeaalexandru7811 when the government does not allow a second opinion and punishes people for having their own thoughts (Canada, Australia) it is the dictatorship.

@hmanuel7138 The Origin of the Family, Private property and the state, for the beginning

@hmanuel7138 sorry, did not get that...

@HNH421 socialist or capitalist both can be dictatorial, do not attribute dictatorshio exceptionally to socialists. That time the bolsheviks openly sasid-yes, it is a dictatorship by the proletariat. it was honestly said. What capitalists say they are so democratic, that they even bring democracy to other world by bombing them.

@christinmeishopeofglory1855 There are many historical books today about those times in stores and also in the internet.only those who were against the government and helped the resistance forces in woods were sent to camps. Also, there were many communists in Latvia. Ever heard about Red Latvian Shooters?

@natmelnych2752 how do you know? did you work in archives? Solzhenitsyn himself admitted that those numbers were big approximation. If you were born in 70s you for sure can not know things! you can only know what you heard from someone.
1
@natmelnych2752 you say what you do not know. The problem with Ukraine was that the soviets wanted to appease the ukranians and ukranianized the population. My father was from Ukraine he was not an ukranian but he stidied ukranian language.Ukranians today play victimes. Read more about history in order not to say silli things.

gulag was a penitentiary system the same as it is in other countries. There was a civil war and ,of course , many were against the current power. THere was a need to fight them. Is this not happening in America? Today? how does the voting go? Is there no division in a country? Yet, always brought the history of the Soviet union as evil.
1
@ 1:06 hahahah the level of freedom or oppression is measured by presence of a gadget in one's pocket! Is this not absurd?
1
Solzhenitsin himself admitted that the numbers of killed people he wrote in his book were very approximate and not based on the facts. It is now, after opening archives and works by historians, known how many were persecuted. And it is not 100 of millions for sure. Every country has a punishment system. The west try to make the Soviet Union the worst country in the world by bringing and enlarging its shortcomings till an abnormal scale. Why in this case majority in today's eastern blok recall the country with nostalgia, are they all mazochists? If we compare what is happening today in the western countries with tyrannical actions of governments and what was the life in the former Soviet block countries we have to admit that the latter was more peaceful and stressless for majority.
