I BOUGHT A MECHANICAL TYPEWRITER It was made in 1958, it arrived unrestored and worked perfectly. Its no lie to say it has changed my life. I get my creative work done in peace and tranquillity with no distractions and my stress goes DOWN whilst I am working, since when was that a thing? Working and being less stressed? Im not less stressed when I work on the computer...!!! Tech in everything is now starting to DEGRADE the experience of everything

@Hanstra Maybe true in Am3ric4 cos you make a lot of s h ! t cars. But almost ANY European or Japanese car from 1995 to 2005 is capable of 400k miles with basic servicing. My mother and sister had my old Audi 100's - both did 450k miles.

My 1994 S Class Mercedes was the best car ever made by humans. Every model after that got worse, less quiltiy more electronics - I gave away my last one, a 2012 5.0L V8 S Class Coupe it had so many electrical problems it was unsellable

@sprockkets Bro computers caused lots of hand injuries due to repetitive stress syndrome.

@sprockkets I did not know this when I replied to you but being an author I researched it and RSI was almost entirely unheard of when people used mechanical typewriters. It is almost entirely an electronic word processor and computer keyboard phenomenon. The much larger range of motion required with the fingers to operate typewriter keys, the steeply raked keyboard and the necessity to move your anm to advance to the next line meant that people were doing a vastly greater range of more natural movements than just wiggling the fingers over a tiny keyboard. Also back problems and posture problems were also incredibly rare. So "Bro mechanical typewriters caused ALMOST NO hand injuries due to repetitive stress syndrome, it was virtually unknown until electronic word processors" of the correct phrasing of the comment. OH and BTW - "If you really want to connect and engage your brain, use your hand and a pen or pencil." I cant, I could not read or write at 13, my handwriting is utterly illegible.

@CJColvin Absolutely "Theres some American cars that last up to 400,000 miles mate". But a $12,200 Dacia Sandero will do 400k miles Here in Bulgaria, almost all taxies are Dacia Sandero cos they are cheap and they are reliable. do you guys even get to buy new cars for $12k ??? Genuine question - cos I know there is a lot of talk about cars in the US getting very expensive.

@1873Winchester When I was a kid my family had a Volvo 144 and a 244. I bet there is a good chance they are still running today.

@casualcadaver Na the 1996 Mercedes W140 S Class 5.0L is the best car ever made by humanity - But the Lexus LS 400 is probably a good contender for 2nd place.

@sprockkets OH right. Got you - NO its absolutely exhausting using the typewriter LOL I am not used to the physical work involved. I have taken an old style touch typing course to learn how to use it correctly. I dont want ignorance to cause me an injury. If I work for 2 or 3 hours on the typewriter in the evening - I sleep BETTER, a lot better. But I have to make sure I am off the computer by 7pm to be able to sleep at all. Im not for one second suggesting that it is better than a computer. But we have crammed every item with so much tech that using them has become a stressful an unfulfilling task. I also do tailoring. My modern digital sewing machine does a hundred things badly, my old 1950's all-metal singer does ONE thing perfectly.

@astererratum6546 No its an Olympia SG1 - it is restored now, but it does not work any better than when I bought it as it worked perfectly any way. OH to live in a world where things were still made to last.

@markseehawer3762 I saw a 1984 E Class Mercedes Diesel in unrestored factory showroom condition last week - I spent 10 minutes converting it, it was beautiful. I dont have an issue with electric cars. I have an issue with cheaply built electric cars and electric cars filled with electronics that have a life of 5 to 8 years before they cost you €8,000 to replace an obsolete touch screen and if you dont you cant turn the wipers on or the lights. I dont have a car now, and I dont need one as I live in a city with amazing public transport and bike roads everywhere. But I think its inevitable I eventually buy an old Mercedes

@Annou7la If you are talking about Gobeki Tepe - there are buttons, 12,000 year old carved jade buttons for clothing that look like they were made 100 years ago. And 8000 years later some guys in Britain put a rock ontop of a rock and called it a hence and my people have been bragging about it ever since.
