I BOUGHT A £260 PAIR OF FABRIC SCISSORS I had to save up for them. At the time it seemed like an extravagant luxury for my tailoring hobby. Now I have them - £260 seems dirt cheap, they are simply astonishing, they cut where I look. The balance is perfection, the cut effortless. STOP BUYING CRAP Honestly save up and buy quality stuff, its so worth it.

@TimmmTim And I don't want to be rude - but 100 USD wont get you a custom-made paperboy cap unless someone is working for below minimum wage. $175 for labour and $25 for materials would be a good estimate. I'm not having a go at you - I'm pointing out the galactic gap between people's expectations - set by hyper cheap clothing - and the reality of making things. Quality fabric for a suit will cost me about $100 a meter MINIMUM and there is 5 m in a 3 piece suit, plus lining, plus horsehair canvas, plus linen canvas, plus pocket lining, plus silk thread, plus buttons. MY cost for materials for a suit is about $750 MINIMUM, before I lift a finger. But people think a suit is $500

@adityamwagh cheap things are why people are broke. Its WAY more expensive over a 10 year period to buy cheap than it is to buy quality.

I'm a semi-professional tailor of men's historical suites, I don't have a website and I do have a small number of loyal customers. But most people, I mean the vast vast majority are NOT prepared to pay even minimum wage which would be £2,860 for a 3 piece suit + the cost of materials. So at MINIMUM wage it would be over £3,500 Its not an issue for me as this is not my income - but I REFUSE to work for less than £17 an hour = £5k because I am taking the food out of the mouths of people who do this for a living. Id rather work for free for friends and family than contribute to the idea that handmade is cheap.

@drooooop - It can but no, in that £5k you have cost of materials. You are looking at about 120 to 150 hours for a 2-piece suit. 150 to 170 hours for a 3-piece suit. Ive just finished a full length overcoat that has taken nearly 200 hours over a period of three months. I make everything in the historical method, the shoulder pads, the waistbands, everything except the buttons I make myself - nothing is bought in.
