EDIT this is incorrect - they stop alcohol sales BUT being serious - this country runs better with NO government than the Uk under the Tories - 5% GDP growth this year, 4 new hospitals in my city alone, 2 new free universities, amazing public transport, public toilets are better than most UK 4* hotels.   4.  @RafaelW8  Its completely true - the hospitals are still functioning, no waiting lists, if I want to see a doctor I can see one this afternoon. The buses have just been replaced by brand new battery electric ones. City wide free wifi was installed. The High Speed Rail line to the capital is on schedule and due to open next month - £15 to go 300 miles at 200mph. Dentists here are advertising for clients - £250 for an implant £100 for a white zircon filling - I know cos I just booked some work for Tuesday next week. GDP growth is 2.4% this year Totally different government structure here - its massively devolved, my city is run by the mayor of MY city. My region is run by the governor of the region. Only truly national things and foreign policy are run by the national govt

I LIVE 100 MILES FROM UKRAINE I have a strange way of telling how its going - the brick & concrete dust When things are going well for the Russian with lots of destruction - our cars are covered every morning with brick dust and the air tastes of brick dust - the last 2 week - NOTHING NOTE - it is seriously shocking that 200 miles from the fighting you can TASTE the destruction...!!! Power is VERY devolved here - the national government only deal with truly national issues like defence and trade deals. My city is Burgas - look it up and tell me if it looks like a UK city

If you are on a low fixed income it will be a massive % increase for you as and when Bulgaria adopts the Euro. FYI - I now live in Bulgaria and the price of food is going up dramatically over the last three months anyway.

I moved to Bulgaria [same windws] 15 years ago and accidentally walked out of a 1st floor window whilst drunk, landed on the concrete 4 meters below, thankfully the "rag doll effect" saved me and I was fine. They also dont use safety glass in doors, I once kicked one shut and put my foot through the glass...

We both know the answer is YES, so there has to be a mechanism, or one can be created by the other permanent members. In the USA the corruption revolves around supplying insane amounts of military equipment. In Europe it surrounds energy. To admit you need help from America is to admit there is a threat - admit there is a threat and you have to stop using that ultra profitable cheap Russian gas...!!! In Yorkshire where I am from literally NOTHING every gets done, no money is ever spent, no investment is ever made, no holes in the road are ever filled. To me this system in Bulgaria is highly decentralised. To an American, it may look highly centralised. BUT - I will be honest - I dont recognise this description "with a high degree of political, administrative, and economic centralisation" certainly to me it seems highly devolved.

In winter Putin can threaten Europe with cutting off the gas supply if they interfere and Europe is screwed. In summer he does not have this leverage. Also NATO are not used to fighting in Ukranian winters - Russians are.

If you did into it and read "The Downing Street Diaries" of Churchill's private secretary in WW2 - the USA would ONLY accept gold in payment for weapons cos they expected Britain to lose and the £GBP would be worthless... And they had NO intention of intervening to make sure the UK didnt lose. The cabinet had drawn up plans to requisition every piece of gold in the country - including wedding rings - to pay the Americans. It was only Germany declaring war on the USA 6 days after P/Harbour that prevented this. The rebuilding of Europe - the USA gave billions of $ to the countries of Europe to rebuild, but you could NOT spend those $ with each other, they HAD to be spent on goods manufactured in the USA. So it was NOT a gift of billions to Europe so much as a gift of billions fo the US economy. The UK finished paying off its war debt to the USA on 31 December 2006... Very far from the American Hollywood image of the events thats for sure. Its all very double-edged American aid.

But when you see them building a modern road - a normal B road is 5 feet deep and a motorway is 12 feet deep.
