@SittingOnEdgeman - If you ration gas so that wealthy people cant just use endless amounts because they can afford it - like we did in WW2 - it has a massive effect. There are 250,000 heated swimming pools in the UK

@sacredgeometry - And some are electric and other IR Solar - I dont this that invalidates my point... Wealthy people use a VAST amount of energy, an absolutely VAST amount. I did some work at a woman's house - it would be £2+ million today. She has the rooms at 32ºC all year cos she liked to walk about in a bikini and the sauna was on 24 hours a day 7 days a week so she didn't have to wait for it to heat up if she wanted to use it. Its no problem, that can afford it - the problem is they are using gas / electricity and that pushes up the price for EVERYONE. Energy use for private houses should be teered. 0-100kwh a month £0.10 100 - 200 - £0.25 200 - 500 - £.50 500 - 750 - £1.00 750 -1000 - £2.00 1000 - 1500 - £5.00 1500 + £10.00 Poor people can afford to heat their tiny homes and wealthy people will use less and install solar etc. Its the obvious and super easy-to-implement solution - BUT you have a tory govt who LOVE rich people...

MAYBE THISHYPER CONNECTED GLOBALISED WORLD is not such a good thing after all... Maybe shipping all the good jobs to China to save money and make shareholders rich is not actually that good for the country doing it??? Radical heretical thoughts I know - we all know PROFIT is king and justifies everything - but what is profit is NOT more important than food and heating??

@joshbentley2307 - Private.

@SittingOnEdgeman " Government control of energy industry is another reason for rich people overusing energy" well not strictly true - BAD government control does cause this. But the govt could just as easily legislate that all-natural resources are price teered [how do you spell teered??] Yes Im classing electricity as a natural resource as it is a procuct OF natural resources very directly.

@sacredgeometry - "Stop making generalisations based on a single data point" I'm not -I'm giving an example - just as you are. I've just looked it up the top 10% of houses by value use 43% of the domestic energy. Remember the majority of high value homes are older houses made of solid stone and are listed buildings. You are NOT going to be allowed to put triple-glased windows in a Georgian manor house. How do you put underfloor heating under a listed parquet floor?
