I LIVE 100 MILES FROM UKRAINE I have a strange way of telling how its going - the brick & concrete dust When things are going well for the Russian with lots of destruction - our cars are covered every morning with brick dust and the air tastes of brick dust - the last 2 week - NOTHING NOTE - it is seriously shocking that 200 miles from the fighting you can TASTE the destruction...!!! That's how bad its been.

@youtubeuser8951 Why did you upvote that comment? Do you REALLY think that comment was worthy of self upvoting...??? I am using miles cos this is an English language channel. 95% of all English-speaking people live in countries using miles. I know this cos I am an author. An American has no concept of what 16 L/100km even is, you write in the language of the audience. DOH.

@raphwalker9123 - Thanks - Im safe, Im in a NATO country just south. All the people I know in Ukraine and Crimea are out of these now. But what I will say is, proximity has a MASSIVE effect on you psychologically. I'm a 52 year old pacifist with long covid and I had to be talked into being sensible by my family and not going to fight [cos I would be a literal hinderance]. Its really strange how you react when its physically very close to you...

@YaPinGYouTu - I can use both. Its just the accepted norm that you write for the expected audience. I'm British, brought up using metric. But if I write a novel that I expect to sell mostly in the USA, I literally write in American English [which I hate]. The exception to that is location. My next book will be set in Britain and France and in the France half it will use metric [with imperial in brackets] for the first few chapters to get people used to the measurements. Ironically the next book is about Britain deciding to go all the way and live permanently in 1930, using fully imperial measurements and steam trains...
