AS A BRIT LIVING IN BULGARIA I have learned that Bulgaria runs better with NO government than the UK does with the Tories

@RafaelW8 Its completely true - the hospitals are still functioning, no waiting lists, if I want to see a doctor I can see one this afternoon. The buses have just been replaced by brand new battery electric ones. City wide free wifi was installed. The High Speed Rail line to the capital is on schedule and due to open next month - £15 to go 300 miles at 200mph. Dentists here are advertising for clients - £250 for an implant £100 for a white zircon filling - I know cos I just booked some work for Tuesday next week. GDP growth is 2.4% this year Totally different government structure here - its massively devolved, my city is run by the mayor of MY city. My region is run by the governor of the region. Only truly national things and foreign policy are run by the national govt

@FidelTrask - Hi - I'm in Burgas - its not high speed. Its designed to be usable whilst you are out and about, but not so fast people will switch off their home system and use it. You can send a picture - get directions but you cant watch a movie on it.

Hey Im British living in Bulgaria for 14 years - Im more embarrassed about the 13 years of Tory rule in the UK than I am about the 2 years of issues you guys have had.

@kol4o1000 When are you coming home...? Every week I meet another Bulgarian who speaks perfect English cos they just arrived back - no kidding. One moved into our apartment block on Monday

@falsevacuum4667 - Its probably a perspective thing in tis self. Im British, so I am used to an almost totally centralised nay LONDON centric system. In Yorkshire where I am from literally NOTHING every gets done, no money is ever spent, no investment is ever made, no holes in the road are ever filled. To me this system in Bulgaria is highly decentralised. To an American, it may look highly centralised. BUT - I will be honest - I dont recognise this description "with a high degree of political, administrative, and economic centralisation" certainly to me it seems highly devolved.

@ASocialistTransGirl We have trolly busses - the electric ones are to do the routes that the trolly busses don't cover. BUT - OMG the electric ones are like something out of Starteck - the seats are frosted acrylic that light up different colours and they have acceleration and deceleration control so you can stand up and NOT really tell it has set off or are slowing. Its just like standing in a cool bar that moves from place to place kinda magically.

@Newman.Cleaner NO it wont - the Tories have done SO MUCH damage it will take 15 years to fix it. And even then you wont be BACK to where you were before they took over. You WILL be the poorest country in Europe, but you will at least be on the tract to recovery in 15 years. Poland passed you in Dec 2022 fo rthe average standard of living [ppp] and in the next 5 years Romania and Bulgaria are set to pass you.

@Cythil - Mt appologies. May I ask which country you are from?
1
@Cythil - OH wonderful.

@AntonDDimov - The only thing that I have noticed not function was the covid vaccine rollout - which was totally shambolic. Apart from that - everything just seems to work.

@ted_8323 - F-uk me you are dum8. Underdeveloped countries that develop and modernise quickly suffer high population decline as the previous agricultural population with large families [children are free labour] kids move to cities and have much fewer kids as they get wealthier. Bulgaria being at the TOP of this list is an indicator of HOW WELL it has modernised and how quickly. How much living standards and wages have increased in a short period of time What this actually shows is the EXACT opposite of what you are claiming. What do you do for a living that requires so little critical thinking or knowledge...?
