I suffered a diabetic blackout bordering on a coma outside a grotty $5 a night motel in Bulgaria. Two of the biggest, roughest looking guys I have ever seen - I mean I would 100% have crossed the street to avoid these guys. they called an ambulance and nursed me like their baby till it arrived. they picked me up and carried me into the ambulance, they missed the bus for their work site and both lost a days pay to look after me. There are amazing people all over this world of every religion and political persuasion. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks, it cost me like a $20 admin fee, that was all.

@ramakrishnashalom9004 - There isn't one. It depends on your values and needs. I travelled in 53 countries and live in 4 before choosing Bulgaria to settle down in permanently. The USA was on the DEFINITELY NOT list along with Somalia and Senegal. The Netherlands was also a firm no for me, yet I know lots of people who chose the Netherlands and its their paradise. Al countries are a combination of good and bad, terrible and amazing. Your opinion on them depends on your values.

@popoju9 - I was going to add, but the comment was getting a bit long... 50 miles away in the same country I was mugged and suffered brain damage. No country has a monopoly on great people, and none has a monopoly on the worst of people.

@invisalats841 - Im an author on psychology and the collapse of civilisations - individualism IS the issue. But - education [lack of] is also the issue. Almost any of societies problems can be solved [in the long run] by education. Almost any of societies problems can be excused through individualism. They are two sides of the same coin. You have to have people incapable of improving their life through lack of education but you also have to have a society happy to watch them fail due to toxic individualism. to get to America 2021 - BOTH things have to be true in equal measure.

Its profitable... Ergo its the most American thing ever.

@invisalats841 - Sounds like a classic post rationalisation by a sociopath to me... That does not mean you ARE a sociopath, what it means is that is the exact type of answer a sociopath would typically give.

@invisalats841 - Now you have fleshed it out that changed the complexion totally. Just for the record, the initial answer did sound super sociopathic. This one, extremely well thought through and entirely reasonable. I like the point you made that even the solution [few and far between as they are] are really just number crunching exercises to minimise a statistic, and not a genuine attempt to solve a problem. I think i said in my first comment that almost ANY solution in society can be solved with education. And it can, if you trace any problem back to its core - bad education is at the heart of it. But its a 20 to 30 year solution and an election cycle is 4 years. I live in Bulgaria now. The driving here when I arrived 15 years ago was worse than that in Africa. It was unbelievably bad. They painted proper road layouts on the playgrounds of every school and the kids learned to drive from 5 year old. They have little electric cars and they have to give way and park up and let people cross - so by the time they get a licence at 18 here they have been driving for 15 years. They also upped the fines for BAD driving to a LOT of money. And the difference is utterly astonishing. the driving now here is so polite and sensible. The problem I see is very few in the USA would want to pay more in taxes to fund driving lessons at school for other peoples kids, the fact that is has made MY life better even as a person wiht no kids, that has stopped being a thing in the USA as far as I can see. The idea that a government program COULD be good for society - I think it has broken down. I watched a guy talking about Elon Musk that he should pay taxes or not?? People in the comments were saying Elon should NOT pay taxes cos the government will either waste it or give it out in corrupt contracts to their friends - lots of people said this. THE SOLUTION was not to pay taxes. People have gotten past the idea that the government SHOULD use the money for good, they have just given up on that.

@invisalats841 - the driving thing hit home to me cos ti made me realise that even SYSTEMIC THINGS you think cant be FIXED - they can. The stuff you accept as sh!t but unavoidable "just the way it is" that can be changed totally in 15 years - IF a government is prepared to take a long term committed view of things. I would NEVER have thought you could change the driving culture of an entire country in 15 years. If the government of the USA wanted they could have school kids doing apprenticeships building tiny homes for homeless people and in 15 years you could eradicate the issue, and you would have millions of skilled craftspeople to take over from those retiring. I can understand the not wanting to pay more taxes issue in the USA. Im British and the UK govt has wasted hundreds of billion £ on the covid stuff through corruption - the health minister gave a £100 million contract to his pub landlord. But we are still at the point of "taxes are good - this is bad corruption and has to stop" In the use people have given up on stopping it.
