YES YES AND YES I live in Bulgaria - officially the poorest country in the EU - BUT... Most families here raise 2 kids quite happily on 1 income...!!! 85% of people own their own home with no mortgage. 65% of families have a house in the village for weekends and food growing. Kids get free school meals, old people do the child minding for free, food is more expensive than the UK but people still buy quality food not processed crap. The QUALITY of life for working people is way higher than the UK £££ =/= Quality of life. >>> Its what you can DO with that money.

WHEN I WAS 24 IN 1994 I bought a 3 bedroomed stone terrace for 2.5 X my salary, I had a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo, and I was at restaurants and clubs every week. THAT WAS NORMAL I feel SO sorry for kids today, I know kids in the Uk who never go out, they save every penny for a deposit and they just get further away each year.

@steph6109 I agree - it came from the communist era - BUT, they are building lots and lots of new apartments. We don't have a housing crisis, we have 1/10th the UK population and we are building 1/3rd the number of homes each year. You can buy a house in a village for £10k or an apartment in the city for £25k [upwards] . A brand new apartment will cost about €600 per sq m. So that's about 40k for a 68m2 apartment like mine. The average wage in my city is €12k so thats 3.3X an average salary for a NEW apartment. You could find an old one to do up for maybe €15k. ALSO TO CONSIDER- this is a 15 minute city, you dont need a car, the bus is 75 cents a DAY no matter how far you go and the bus is every 7 minutes. BTW - the city is Burgas you can look it up
42
"compound inequity". genius phrasing. I wish I had thought of that.
40
@kokofleming8833 NO - they are WAY WAY happier than the abandoned old people lonely in their houses waiting for the kids to remember them that we have in the UK. They are active valued members of society. When you get an apartment its important to check out the quality of the Babas [Grandmothers] cos they run the place...!!! [And your supply of free home-grown tomatoes and cucumbers relies on them!!]

HE IS. His greatest achievement is getting this message to go mainstream. I wrote a book on this is 2020, its by a very long way my worst-selling book. As he says about his website - no one was interested. You have to be a driven man, this has to be your calling in life, your vocation to make this a "thing" in the mainstream. I can imagine he is totally shattered.

IF YOU DONT THINK THINGS CAN GET WORSE watch the Time Team dig in Manchester for the first cotton mill They uncover the houses built for the mill workers. At first one family had a 2-storey house with cellar. Then they split it into 1 family per floor 3 families. Then they split it into one family per room - 6 families. In the ned there were 3 families in the cellar alone - 12 to 18 people in a cellar intended for coal. 50 people in a house built for 1 family - CAPITALISM IT CAN ALWAYS GET WORSE
25
I LIVE IN BURGAS BULGARIA its like Dubai compared to the UK - bust thriving high streets, no pot holes, everything works amazing public transport - HAPPY people watch this video someone has done "Burgas - Bulgaria 4K Virtual Walking Tour around the City - Travel Guide"
24
CAPITALISM MEANS "I have lots of money therefore give me more money for doing nothing"
21
THE LATEST MEDIA DIVISION I have noticed is trying to turn people on £25k against those on £50k as if £50k is a millionaire salary and not the minimum you need to just live £25k is UTTERLY unlivable - that's the problem - don't hate those on a basic livable wage cos you are utterly screwed.
20
BRITAIN IS A POOR COUNTRY WITH ONE VERY RICH CITY - If you remove the GDP of London from the Uk it drops to 23rd in the world. The north of Britain is poorer than Mississippi - the poorest state in the US
20
I WROTE A BOOK ON THIS "How to live in a collapsing economy" It's my worst-selling book No one wants to face the reality that neoliberal capitalism is at an end and its managed decline from here on until a new [probably hybrid] system emerges. 40:00 exactly what I said - no one wants to listen, no one wanted to look at his website.
17
YOUR WALLPAPER is exactly the same as my grandmother used to have... I'm not criticising, it's incredibly reassuring actually - life goes on - her great grandkids are growing up in a world where people still buy the same wallpaper.
17
@frankkelly207 a lot of German rental properties have rent control though, and I believe they have a policy of encouraging work and flexibility through affordable rental property.
16
@UnexpectedAmy - YES things work...!!! Main reason - NO TORY PARTY IN BULGARIA - actually more specifically - MO Thatcher, they understands the value of society and community - they go to great lengths to keep high streets busy and thriving - every group of about 20 apartment blocks has its own little high street. And they BUILD homes so people can afford to BUT things cos my rent is £150 a month on a beach front apartment. That means I have MONEY to spend on other things - not just paying tory landlords all my money High property prices = poor people.
13
This was my comment: I WROTE A BOOK ON THIS "How to live in a collapsing economy" It's my worst-selling book No one wants to face the reality that neoliberal capitalism is at an end and its managed decline from here on until a new [probably hybrid] system emerges. ---!--- You have NO IDEA how hard it is to push this message that Garry has successfully got into the mainstream. NO one wants to hear it, and the vested interests have no desire to allow you to promote it. I bet he is absolutely exhausted. If I had written 300 pages of meaningless motivational 80ll0X it would have sold 10,000 copies. This is why Tate and Peterson do what they do - its what people WANT to hear.
13
I 100% agree. And now they are trying to turn people on £25k against those on £60k as if those on £60k are grotesquely overpaid.
13
My rent on a beachfront apartment in the city of Burgas Bulgaria is £150 a month. Type D 5 years visas are quite easy to get. Just saying - Oh and 300 days of sunshine a year.
12
A QUESTION FOR YOU GARY I read a research paper that said the financial services in the City of London in effect created NEGATIVE GDP - they "contribute" £500 bill GDP But there is so little tax paid and so few wages paid that is should not be treated like normal GDP. Worse still, it suks up so much govt infrastructure investment, financial investment etc that it has a net NEGATIVE effect = to its official GDP. So in effect, the City of London adds up to a £1 trillion distortion on the GDP* I would love your thoughts on this. *Obviously I am massively simplifying for the purposes of YT comments
10
@wakey87 so what you actually mean is "I have no economic argument -- I'm just massively racist". OK why didn't you sat that to begin with??? People would at least respect your honesty.
10
HAHAHAHAHAH very true...!!!
10
WEALTH IS A RATIO - if the rich get richer by 20% and you get richer by 10% - you get POORER BY 10%
8
IM NOT AN ECONOMIST Im an author on psychology and the collapse of civilisations - Garry is 100% correct about the political future - the situation is UNFIXABLE So much money - and therefore power - has been transferred to the top that change in the system to rebalance it is impossible. NO amount of "Labour" or "Democrat" can change the situation for ordinary people. The UK is in freefall collapse and that will continue for 10 to 15 years, the USA is in managed steady decline. Biden is doing a really good job of MANAGING the decline >>> But you don't get a gold star for managing a decline cos people only see the decline. So populist parties offering simple radical solutions will become more and more appealing. The only things going for the UK are the Tories are so hated they will probably be out of power for 15 years or for ever. SCOTUS in the USA serves the top 10% of society and they dont want Trump so they will likely block him. But I left the UK in 2009 and I have NO intention of returning in the next 20 years... Its going to be unbelievably grim. DO NOT EXPECT LABOUR TO CHANGE THINGS - THEY SIMPLY CAN NOT
8
AHAHAHAH I USED TO BE A MILLIONAIRE and I looked like a millionaire - and I suffered brain injury in a mugging for my Rolex Daytona Cosmograph and lost everything, became homeless... Unless you have security - its not a god idea to LOOK like a millionaire
7
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE CHANNEL GROWTH just noticed it.
6
IM AN AUTHOR on psychology and the collapse of civilisation and this is MY advice - form local social cooperative networks. Hoping things will get better is a mug's game, this is the BIG ONE. Those with networks around them will survive WAY better than those alone - especially if you live in the city. Destitution is a "new normal" and it will hit the bottom 50% or more of society. If you have a garden, plant food, share it wiht those in your network who don't have it... BUILD COMMUNAL BONDS - its the way through this. ---§--- there will be no revolution, but there will be the collapse of capitalism and after that socialism and after that advanced communism. Karl Marx never proposed communism as an alternative to capitalism, the guys in the USSR shot the bolt, his was a prediction of what came after capitalism as a natural result of its collapse.
6
THIS AGED VERY VERY WELL EVEN IN THE TULIP BUBBLE of the 1630';s - you get a TULIP
6
MY VERY FIRST JOB IN 1988 i was paid £7,250 - today that is equal to £25,111 What 18-year-old gets £25k...??? You want a laugh? I sold TOILET PAPER over the telephone - £25k as a toilet paper salesman. Beer was 65p a pint. So that was 11,153 pints of beer - now in Leeds where I worked its £3.50 so that would be £39,000 in beer money. Cos that's all it got spent on.
6
BECAUSE THEY DONT CARE they are entertainment, not news/predictions. There is no incentive to be correct, they employ entertaining or inflammatory people whilst the good economists go to work for the banking industry. Im an author on the collapse of civilisations, my predictions on the UK & US mid/long term economy are orders of magnitude more accurate. ITS NOT THAT DIFFICULT* *short term predictions are incredibly difficult.
6
@wakey87 WOW - bad example - Japan is selling vast USD reserved to keep the system together, its on the very brink of collapse. The Yen is haemorrhaging value. If this is your line of argument you NEED a better example - maybe try Argentina...???
6
@clipkut4979 YEP. - forgot that - income tax is a flat rate 10%.
6
WOW - 62K SUBS been with you since about 5 or 6 k - it was a long old trek to 15k but it really seems to have taken off now - I guess the BBC interview got you quite a few - BRILLIANT.
6
But to a MAGAt you're just a DEI hire...!!! Impressicve CV my man...!
5
IM FAIRNESS self-inflicted economic suicide IS a very rare event - Im not sure any other country has ever done this to its self.
5
@RenewalFountain IM sorry mate - its fking tough for young people today. My advice, 1st sort your sleep then work from there. sleep is the foundation of life.

MAYBE PUT "NO1" IN THE TITLE...!?!?!?

@T1tusCr0w - Well I live in Bulgaria now - an ex-communist country. I arrived here a foaming at the mouth capitalist, after talking to people here and understanding how communism built this society I am now a full on communist. We were so so lied to about communism. Sure they did not have the shiny consumer goods we had, but that was never their goal. They were striving [however imperfectly] for a fair an equitable society where everyone was able to live and be happy. They were also striving for a sustainable society. Not a throwaway society. I do historic tailoring. Last week I bought a USSR made 1929 iron. It needed a new power connector. I bought one for £1.50 at the DIY shop 300m from my apartment - for a 1929 Stalin era iron...!!! Why? cos they NEVER changed the connector in the entire lifespan of the communist era [Apple!!!!] every electrical thing that gets hot has the same ceramic connector on it. There was no profit motive to make crap - so they made things to last, contrary to what we were told in the west. They never dig the roads up here for burst pipes or electrical cables to be repaired - when they built the road they put an underground conduit in for all the services and cables etc- they INVESTED in doing things properly the first time and you now what - that takes longer and costs more, so your economy does not grow as fast. But its way more sustainable UNLESS the USA force you into a cold war specifically to bankrupt you...
4
EXCEPTIONAL how do we get this on BBC1...??? Thats where it needs to be
4
It depends on the baseline condition. They would react differently now to 15 years ago. At the moment the markets are literally worried the whole deco of cards is about to collapse. They understand that investment is needed, the economic thumb screws can not be tightened anymore to squeeze out more profit without collapsing the system.
4
@Matt-ou7tu answer - a lot of money has been siphoned off...!!!
4
I WROTE THIS 2 YEARS AGO - TELL ME I'm WRONG…? The balance has been tipped; there is no money left in the working class, they are in debt up to their eyeballs so now it is time for the elites to start eating the middle class. The lower value houses are to go to repossession auction at a bargain price and be gifted to the grandchildren of the Etonians as rental income properties and the smaller farmers are to be bought at bankruptcy auction to enlarge the estates of the landowners and Tory donors. To do this you are hacking into your voter base, but it must be done to keep funnelling money and assets to the top. You can lie to the red wall - that will get you so far. But ultimately "democracy" has to go. You CAN NOT continue to win elections, no matter how twisted the system, when Tory voters are losing houses and farms. So "democracy" has to go - or the system can no longer FEED. And the ONLY purpose of the Tory party is to FEED the system. And the system has one purpose, funnel ever-increasing wealth to the top. Brexit is a vehicle to move assets from the middle class to the elites. They dont care if the economy crashes, they have more money than they can ever spend - they are insulated. A nice BIG CRASH that devalues property and bankrupts farms is GREAT...! They can snap them up. Cos the thing the elites of the UK know is money is meaningless when you have enough of it - CAPITAL ASSETS is what builds and maintains generational wealth. That is why the price of houses and land are so high right now, they are converting cash money into capital assets at a rate never seen in history. So they NEED a crash to bring the price down whilst they snap it all up...

@garyseconomics - My hobby is making men's historical suits 1890 to 1940. Its probably for the same reason, harking back to simpler times when life was more predictable... Im literally sewing a Frock Coat as I watch your video. Thanks for what you do BTW.

BRITAIN IS BANKRUPT and no one is admitting it…!!! 38% of all public buildings are past end of life with 3% more every year - thats £1.5 Trillion over the next 10 years - budget £0 Roads - in my sister's tiny North Yorkshire council area they audited the roads - £1.1 Billion to repair them. 636v "councils" in the UK so that’s £700 Billion THEN you have sewage systems - 1 sewer in London cost £5 billion - so what £250 billion Electricity - MOD - Trains - that's going to be £1 trillion This lot comes to about £4 trillion JUST TO REPAIR THE BROKEN STUFF - not to build anything new, not to build any social housing, not to pay for a green transition or an AI revolution making 30% of people redundant, not to sort the NHS
3
@T1tusCr0w - Its not your writing - it my brain. Just tried holding a conversation with my sister - oh god could not think of the words. Ive had Covid a few times and judging by the total brain fog Im guessing this is it again... Thanks for the good wishes, in not "in bed" level ill, just feel crappy... 🙂
3
@uniteddreamer the only thing I would disagree with is "You will always get a decline in the richest nations". You are going to get a catastrophic decline, Britain siphoned off $45 Trillion from India over 200 years and what is worse, the things we invented to siphon off that wealth - the joint stock company [PLC] the off shore banc accounts, they never went away, they just started to devour the mother country. The joint stoc company was invented to be a soulless ravenous extraction machine, the problem was people got rich in India and retired - it was dangerous. Britain was not making the money. it needed to from India. So we invented the corporation to suck the wealth out fo India. NOW they own the water companies and the electricity companies... And they are sucking the life out of Britain AND America. Sorry for the bad spelliung - Im exhausted.

IM AN AUTHOR on the collapse of civilisations - I wrote this 3 years ago TELL ME I WAS WRONG...? [Gary is right as well - however bad it is now - its going to get a hell of a lot worse] The balance has been tipped; there is no money left in the working class, they are in debt up to their eyeballs so now it is time for the elites to start eating the middle class. The lower value houses are to go to repossession auction at a bargain price and be gifted to the grandchildren of the Etonians as rental income properties and the smaller farmers are to be bought at bankruptcy auction to enlarge the estates of the landowners and Tory donors. Brexit is a vehicle to move assets from the middle class to the elites. They dont care if the economy crashes, they have more money than they can ever spend - they are insulated. A nice BIG CRASH that devalues property and bankrupts farms is GREAT...! They can snap them up. That is why the price of houses and land are so high right now, they are converting cash money into capital assets at a rate never seen in history. So they NEED a crash to bring the price down whilst they snap it all up... The collapse IS THE POINT, its snouts in the trough for the next grotesque gorging of British assets. So they HAVE to go the Tories. Not must go; HAVE TO GO or the UK will never be a democracy again in our lifetimes and the life of the working person will be that of a peasant. ---§--- And this is what the EU Retained Law bill is about - no regulations no workers rights NOTHITHING - all got rid off instantly cos the Tories KNOW they will never get back into power so SMASH THE SYSTEM NOW
3
QUESTION FOR YOU GARRY what happens when Labour utterly [inevitably] fail at turning the UK around...??? This is my greatest worry - I have my own very bleak dark theory, but I would love to hear your thoughts.
3
WHY DID WE HAVE 70 YEARS OF VERY EQUAL SOCIETY....? ***COMMUNISM*** The elites were utterly terrified of you all going communist so they allowed you a slightly better standard of living so you believed in capitalism and not communism - when communism in the USSR collapsed in 1991 - NO NEED to be nice to you any more, what you going to do? Go communist HAHAHA. when did the decline start? OH 1990's
3
@JamalBrown-k1x A masters degree in economics ONLY teaches you about neoliberal capitalist economic - as that is at and end and collapsing globally - Im not that sure its especially helpful; in fact I would say its a hindereance.
