Yeah the problem this causes which I doubt they will ever truly overcome for human rating - is the MTBF. The mean time between failure. as complexity increases the MTBF drops exponentially due to the interconnected nature of failures - 33 engines provides a LOT of opportunity for 1 to go wrong and take out a critical system

@Iain31313 A good point - I would argue its because no one at the top of SpaceX expects the Starship to ever be a functional thing in any real sense. So better off use it as a development platform for the current engine on the tax payers $$$. At best its going to be a disposable 2nd stage with the option of a standard return capsule with ablative coating - they MIGHT get that human-rated as it has abort capabilities. The belly flop thing they have now will never ever work.

@samsonsoturian6013 - Mark my words - its never going to the moon and it will never be human-rated. If some kid shows you his go-cart do you need a crystal ball to know he won't be setting the world land speed record...???
