JUMP ON A PLANE and come to Burgas in Bulgaria and have a look at what a thriving city centre looks like - what a thriving high streets look like - and what they do differently here In the middle of the pandemic lockdown - we STILL had new shops opening in the centre, You can probably get an interview with the Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, he just won his 4th term and he is a great guy - he speaks perfect English.

IM FROM LEEDS - LIVED IN BULGARIA FOR 15 YEARS over here the high streets are BOOMING - why...? 1) Cheap rents 2) Cheap taxes and rates 3) a big one - NO AMAZON 4) they don't pathologically police the activity, if the shop wants to put a table out or good ont he pavement - unless they don't take the P they allow it 5) culturally they are BRILLIANT at shop fit - they spend money on good looking shops 6) PRIDE - every shop washes the front and sweeps the street EVERY morning --> 7) shops will always split a 5 pack of razers or any other multi-pack and sell you ONE at 1/5th the price, so poor people don't pay a premium, so poor people USE the shops where the supermarkets you have to buy a 5 pack. 8) very few national chains - when everything is the same everywhere, who wants to go...??? 9) Public. transport so cheap its basically FREE - 60p for the day no matter how many busses you get 10) High quality public toilets - Public toilets here are nicer than in most UK 4* hotels 11) Beautiful streets, street art, fountains, plants, etc etc 12) AN ACTIVE DESIRE BACKED UP WITH MONEY TO KEEP THE HIGH STREETS BUSY AS THEY ARE RECOGNISED AS A SOCIAL GOOD...!!! 13) Edit - its really hard for foreign companies to buy up Bulgarian property Shopping in the centre here is a wonderful organic none corporate adventure
