I SAVED UP A DEPOSIT IN 6 MONTHS in 1994, and I bought all the furniture at the same time as saving the deposit - house price £30k salary £17.5k And this is how it SHOULD be for first-time buyers.

@DavidBennell Thats what they used to be in the North. 3 Bedroomed stone-built terrace house. My job was a salesperson basic salary of about £12k commission and bonus taking it to £17.5k. I bought a Toyota Supra twin turbo the year after. Life was good and unlike most, I want to have the same for Millenials, Gen X and Gen A. Life for young people is not supposed to be misery and hardship.

@christinefiedor3518 - YEP - houses should NOT be the primary way you obtain wealth. Housing should be for shelter. Other investments should be for wealth increase, but hey - who does not love a totally FREE £500k for literally doing nothing

@BRMCaptChaos Business investment. The boom in property is partly why the UK has such low productivity - why rist a business investment when you can make way more buying a super safe house investment????

@economicshelp YEP - sadly I gave it away to an ex-girlfriend to get rid of her - cos that was NOT a big deal back then.
