300 DAYS OF SUNSHINE A YEAR HERE IN BULGARIA if you are going to be broke - you may as well be broke in the sun...!!!

I MOVED TO BULGARIA IN 2009 the best decision I have ever made in my life - Im not rich, very far from it - I rent an apartment. But the quality of life is immeasurably better here than the UK I do Tai Chi on the balcony every morning overlooking the Black Sea, my rent is £130 a month. The public transport is amazing. We still have busy thriving high streets with bustling shops, the hospitals and doctors, the dentists and dermatologists are all distributed and local so you can mostly walk to them. The same with the schools and best of all NO THATCER - so they still have society and community here...!!!

@formxshape There is a LOT more obesity than when I moved here. Jeez how bad has it got in the UK in the last 15 years...??? Personally, I dont like Sofia, but thats just me. Velico Turnavo is lovely, Plovdiv, Im in Burgas which I love In next to the beach my bedroom window looks over the sea and my living room window over the lakes. Please come and visit the city when yuo get a chance.

@lovejoypeace6174 I would quite like to live in Portugal. I also want to live in Iran and China for a couple of years each to learn about them

@dimitarmargaritov I agree with every word in that comment. I have no idea how Bulgaria functions as well as it does on the basis it mostly has no government. Certainly, Burgas functions cos it has a brilliant mayor. He just won re-election for the 5th time I think it is. All he did to campaign was make a booklet of all the things he had achieved in the last 4 years and posted it to every home. When I came here in 2009 it was horses and carts on dirt roads, its now brand new electric buses on glass smooth highways - I liked the old Bulgaria but obviously people want progress. Just having a functioning bus service is something most people in the UK can only dream about.

@Pear-zo4em You need a Type D visa - there are about 20 ways to get one, its not that hard.

@daydays12 I LOVE cols and snowy winter - sadly we don't get those any longer due to climate change. 1m of snow each winter the first 3 winters I was here. We had 1mm for 6 hours last winter

@Les-i7e Yeah I never had a problem with that, Bulgaria is kinda like the UK in the 1970's when I grew up. Strong societal ties. Neighbours looking after each other. But it is very rapidly modernising - at least here in Burgas on the coast - and that brings with it the negative as well as the positive. Thanks for the good wishes. Have a nice Christmas

YEAH BUT YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER those private landlords vote Tory...!!!

@FilmPunk What meds do you need? You would have to pay if you just emigrated, but meds are often very cheap here.

@daydays12 It makes a massive difference to the quality of life doesn't it ? Does your city have a thriving busy city centre with lots of shops??? Im convinced the reason ours does is the public transport, so id be really interested to know if your city centre is thriving or not.

@dimitarmargaritov That arena thing was doomed from the start - it was one of these ultra-modern architectural designs where everything is unique and has to be built just for that one building and only fits in one place on that building. I used to work with the universities in the UK providing the audiovisual systems and they were always buying these unique statement buildings and they were always a disaster. In the UK simply HAVING a new arena in a provincial city would be a miracle LOL. As I say - I liked the old Bulgaria with dirt roads and horses and carts, I miss that. But I doubt the residents of Burgas do LOL

@hammadali6482 If you are British there is no greater luxury than sun and blue sky...!!!

@Les-i7e Thats because the sea is a lot nicer. Amazing blue with corral and stuff, its absolutely beautiful. The sea here is kinds blue green and just sand out for miles - 300 days of sunshine a year so it better than Scarborough. But if you live with it ever day you go somewhere different for your holiday dont you.

@Les-i7e Yeah - I have an issue with my tenancy here, not been given notice but have been told to start looking. I think the landlord wants to turn it into a holiday let... When I spoke to a friend about it they said look at an inland city as everything is either a holiday let now or sky-high rent. My rental contract is 5 years old so its the initial amount plus 5 years of inflation which no longer equals the going rate... They are doing a LOT of building so its not population expansion pushing up the rent its the % going to overnight lets or holiday lets
