IVE LIVED IN BULGARIA for 14 years now and I now live in a "commi block" - my attitude has completely changed towards the architecture and indeed the commi blocks You have to remember when they were built they had not suffered 20 years of post Soviet collapse and neglect. Now they are being refurbished it is much easier to see them as pretty good solutions and in many many ways FAR superior to the American car-dependent suburb.

WHEN I MOVED TO BULGARIA 15 years ago these were everywhere - for sale in junk shops for €1 and even in piles in the trash some times - I really wish I had collected them Lots of porcelain enamel signs as well - but even back then these were quite collectable.

@Georgi_Slavov Like all societies георги, they don't appreciate what they have and they long for what others have. Try living in an American suburb where you have to drive 15 km to get milk because no shops or businesses are allowed in the residential zones. You are in Sliven I guess...?

@Georgi_Slavov GO, Go live in America, it will make you really appreciate Bulgaria 😀

Well it clearly does cos you believe that and that was US propaganda not reality. so YOU believe propaganda. Не питай откъде знам, че е пропаганда.

THE AMOUNT OF SURVIVORSHIP BIAS IN THE4 COMMENTS IS ASTONISHING "I left the USSR and it was absolutely HORRIBLE believe me cos I left" Yeah - YOU hated it so much you LEFT. Hundreds of millions DIDNT hate it enough to leave, YOUR story is invalid as an example of Soviet life as you had an extremist position. Its like asking American defectors the USSR what they think about America...!!!

@Georgi_Slavov - QUOTE "U.S. citizens traveling on regular tourist passports cannot stay more than a total of 90 days in Bulgaria within a 6 month-period without a Bulgarian visa." My American friend is going through the visa application process at the moment.

@TheColdWarTV Its not that I didn't think them worthwhile, its that there were so many of them I never thought they would run out. Then one day I realised I had not seen any for years.

@Georgi_Slavov It should be reciprocal.

I LOVE THE IDEA Of talking about communist propaganda in a world where Fox News is a thing and Am3ric4 just voted for a fascist cos the eggs were a bit expensive. LOL

@karolissavickis10 Thats not how statistics work. 80% didnt want to leave does NOT = 20% want to leave
1
@karolissavickis10 Again - that's not how statistics work - 80% expressed a desire NOT to leave, that has nothing to do with the ability to leave. 20% in this instance we dont know. But we DO know that of the REMAINING 20% it will not be 20% that want to leave because there is ALWAYS a % who dont know or have no opinion. On any given subject this is typically 10% to 15%. So we can surmise that 5% to 10% likely had an active desire to leave. Incidentally "In 2023, 17 percent of Americans reported a desire to emigrate, which rose to 21 percent in 2024." In short 10% to 20% of any population always want to leave, thats humans, but 80% wanting to stay does not = 20% wanting to leave.

Yes, but the quality of the food in her shops was infinitely better than the quality of the food in your shops

"Gray, gray, gray, and more gray. All the clothing was gray." sorry dude, thats just a lie. I live in the former USSR and my friends show me pictures, the clothes were very colourful. Your entire comment is bullsh!t western propaganda.

@Georgi_Slavov QUOTE: "What is a U.S. R B1/B2 visa? The United States Visa Type B1/B2 or B-1/B-2 is a temporary, nonimmigration visa that allows citizens of Bulgaria to conduct business and tourism to happen without worrying about two separate visas."

Ive lived in Bulgaria for 14 years, collecting stories of life under communism and the MAIN thing people need to know about communism is it was NOT a monoblock. People here in Bulgaria generally had a good life and they miss is. Across the border in Romania, it was terrible. The quality of life was not dictated by communism or not. But by the government/leader of the country. Just as with capitalism.
1
That's weird, because I now live in Bulgaria, and every person I speak to that lived in the socialist times. Had a good life and mostly really liked it. It's almost like your recollection is distorted by the fact you moved out. I'll have to justify your move... It's called survivorship bias

@RonaldReaganRocks1 No it does not it suck massively.
