THE AMOUNT OF SURVIVORSHIP BIAS IN THE4 COMMENTS IS ASTONISHING "I left the USSR and it was absolutely HORRIBLE believe me cos I left" Yeah - YOU hated it so much you LEFT. Hundreds of millions DIDNT hate it enough to leave, YOUR story is invalid as an example of Soviet life as you had an extremist position. Its like asking American defectors the USSR what they think about America...!!!

@karolissavickis10 Thats not how statistics work. 80% didnt want to leave does NOT = 20% want to leave

@karolissavickis10 Again - that's not how statistics work - 80% expressed a desire NOT to leave, that has nothing to do with the ability to leave. 20% in this instance we dont know. But we DO know that of the REMAINING 20% it will not be 20% that want to leave because there is ALWAYS a % who dont know or have no opinion. On any given subject this is typically 10% to 15%. So we can surmise that 5% to 10% likely had an active desire to leave. Incidentally "In 2023, 17 percent of Americans reported a desire to emigrate, which rose to 21 percent in 2024." In short 10% to 20% of any population always want to leave, thats humans, but 80% wanting to stay does not = 20% wanting to leave.

Yes, but the quality of the food in her shops was infinitely better than the quality of the food in your shops

"Gray, gray, gray, and more gray. All the clothing was gray." sorry dude, thats just a lie. I live in the former USSR and my friends show me pictures, the clothes were very colourful. Your entire comment is bullsh!t western propaganda.

Ive lived in Bulgaria for 14 years, collecting stories of life under communism and the MAIN thing people need to know about communism is it was NOT a monoblock. People here in Bulgaria generally had a good life and they miss is. Across the border in Romania, it was terrible. The quality of life was not dictated by communism or not. But by the government/leader of the country. Just as with capitalism.

That's weird, because I now live in Bulgaria, and every person I speak to that lived in the socialist times. Had a good life and mostly really liked it. It's almost like your recollection is distorted by the fact you moved out. I'll have to justify your move... It's called survivorship bias
