MY UNCLE HAD 2 OF THESE said they were the best cars he has ever owned - and he has had E-Types, Ferraris, endless Jags, Lotus, De Tomasso, Facel Vega, Lancia Gama coups... Literally hundreds of classics but when I asked him which was the best, which he enjoyed the most - the Fiat 130 Coupe was his No1. Got a Mk9 Jag at the moment

I WOULD STILL HAVE ONE OF THESE over any modern Ferrari - they are just SO pretty and so beautifully balanced to look at.

@david-hf3dk He went through a shameful American car phase LOL. That ended when the back axle on a corvet stingray gave way on a corner on the A1 and he crashed into the upstairs bedroom of a farmhouse. He was always the cool uncle we used to go stay with in the summer holidays - we grew up in Batley West Yorkshire in the Thatcher era - you can imagine what it was like for us to spend summer at a place like Harry's Garage. The most exotic car in the whole of Batley was a Mk2 Ford Granada in Gold...

This was my comment: I GAVE AWAY MY 2012 S-500 85k miles and a hundred million electrical gremlins - sick to death of it it sat for 3 years before I gave it to a neighbour's kid DO NOT BUY ONE It would literally forget what it was and need reprogramming at Merc. The seats would stop working, the wing mirrors would stay turned in. It would randomly flatten the battery. W140 1994 to 1999 that what you want.

@simonhjc Merc could not "fix" this. They could reset computers and make things work - but 3 weeks later it would be a DIFFERENT thing that was now working - it was never a motor or a switch, it was the electronics between the switch and the motor. They have I think 13 different computers on them and the faults were never just the one computer, lights are on a different system to seats.

@trwsandford No I dont think he has had a A H. Had Triumph TA. Had Jenson Interceptors, 2 I think. He is a farmer and he restored classics over winter, but he is nearly 80 now, he had to pay to have the Mk9 Jag restored. He once told his son he was off to buy a Lamborghini and came back 2 days later with a tractor, after the kid had told all his school mated they were getting a Lambo LOL

@simonhjc Funny you should say that - I lived next door to the airfield at Brighton when they were restoring a Meshasmit ME109, the engineers said the engineering was amazing but SO complicated they dont know how they finished more than 10 of the in the time they had. Ive had the older S Class mercs the 1990 version the 1994 and the 1996 they were all very good. The 2002 was a bit crap and the 2012 was utter junk.

@robertmenghini.Lambomad Sadly I never saw them in the flesh - only on the pictures on his wall.

@KenanTurkiye So your point is that 1970's Jags didn't have a lot of power compared to modern cars? NO SH!T SHERLOCK My. neighbour has a Merc AMG A-45. Its a 2 litre 4cyl with I think 420bhp. Am3ric4n 7 and 8L V8's of the early 70's were producing 175bhp

I NEARLY BOUGHT ONE OF THESE from JCT600 in Leeds in 2002 - I did the "sensible" thing and bought a Lotus instead. I know I would have regretted it financially - but I cant look at one and not think "DAMN...!!" EDIT - they are WAY bigger than you think, that was another consideration.

@zzhughesd OH MY GOD - In 2002 there was one in the showroom at JCT 600 in Leeds for £75K. I so nearly bought it but when I did some measuring up it was WAY too wide and long to get around the corner to my garage. It was such an impressive car.

@KenanTurkiye Im sorry - I completely missed your point???
