You don't pay NI on: Rental income Share dividends Pension income Capital gains Gifts Wealth Interest received If you are over 65 If you earn over £50k You ONLY pay it on wages earned for work done... So it specifically hits younger working people on lower incomes and this specifically BENEFITS old people with very very expensive houses who want to leave them to their kid and not pay extra tax on them... In other words - it takes from the Labour voter and gives to teh Tory voter VERY SPECIFICALLY BUT you can bet they are too thick to work this out
