CASCADING SYSTEMS FAILURE where everything is broken and the stuff you need to fix it is also broken... It is INCREDIBLY difficult, if not impossible, to get out of and it is ALWAYS what caused the collapse of civilisations. They might get there by different routes - but is ALWAYS cascading systems failure that finishes them off - cant fix the problems cos other problems they can fix cos other problems.

@samhartford8677 - the classic is interest rates. They are at 0.1%. Inflation is happening. How do you control inflation - you put up the interest rates. BUT you just encouraged thousands of people to move house and take on massive mortgages with the stamp duty holiday... And the national debt is at £2.2 trillion, so you are going to utterly screw the people who just moved house AND you are going to have to spend huge amounts extra on servicing the national debt... And TAX revenue is down cos of the pandemic and the loss of trade cos of Brexit and the loss of the financial sector in London cos of Brexit... So how do you control inflation - the BOE says "its just a blip - we wont up the interest rate" Translation "WE REALLY HOPE THIS IS A BLIP - COS WE ARE SCREWED IF NOT* Interconnected circles of brokenness...
