  3.  @herlandercarvalho  "Tangentially" Im a European author on psychology and the collapse of civilisations - its hard to say that and not sound pompous. But I closely monitor geopolitics and people's reactions to it, the way they are reacting to the changing global dominance. I was not doing this when HRC was the candidate, but I feel that people EXPECTED Hilary to win cos the idea of a Trump victory was laughable, but were they ENTHUSIASTIC about HRC...???

  5.  @portaljumper339  I had an amazing conversation this week in YT comments - a guy said AI "art" was art. I said it was machine-generated slop and that art could only be made by a sentient being with emotions and the capacity to feel pain. MY GOD did he have some great arguments - it doesn't happen often, but its nice when it does.

  6. ​ @portaljumper339  his main point was if you accept Marcel Duchamp 1917 The Fountian - which was a urinal - as art then you have to accept AI as art cos Duchamp's whole point was what was the level of involvement of the artist needed in order for something to BE art.

  7.  @portaljumper339  Therefore an AI-generated picture of a unrial on a pedestal IS ART, because its asking the same question Duchamp was, ergo AI is art. I countered that it the action YOU make of taking the picture and putting it on a urinal and asking the question that MAKES it art - not the AI picture, its like oil paint - thats not art, its what you do with it that makes it art.

  8.  @portaljumper339  He countered with some good points that I can't remember but the thing we settled on was that 1) the above is a kind of unique circumstance [and brilliantly chosen by him] and 2 ALL Ai "art" is plagiarism [as you said] and plagiarism is NOT art. If someone copies your work its not art, it might be a pretty image, but it is NOT art. Its at best faximaly.

  11.  @portaljumper339  I 100% agree - a urinal is not art, what HE DID with the urinal makes it art. All AI images are urinals, if you then use that in a creative way it become art. A mass-produced coffee cup is not art, but a Florian Gladsby hand-made coffee cup is art. If you decorate a mass-produced coffee cup it becomes art. But I would not dignify AI images by calling them a coffee cup - they are definitely urinals.
