OK - Im genuinely not criticising here. I'm old [54] and this bit that worries me "I tried it once. Didn't end well" EDIT - read to the end of the comment for the point I used to do like 20 companies a day or get the Yellow Pages out and start cold calling on the telephone and Id call 50 companies a day. And you know what on an average day 50 out of 50 would say "NO" and I would do that for week after week until someone gave me a job. You have to learn to take regection [and I dont actually mean with Jobs] and keep going my man - cos you know what??? LIFE IS MORE DIFFICULT FOR YOU GUYS...!!! So its even more important that you get used to rejection and just keep going...!!!

@ThereIsHopeInJesusC Well its not really that - its mostly that politicians are almost all 60+ years old and get all nostalgic over paper letters. "OH he respects me, he wrote me a letter like i used to receive in the good old days. He is a WORTHY person, I shall work tirelessly to stop the children running over his lawn"

@ThereIsHopeInJesusC Like if you want a politician to actually do something for you - write a physical paper letter and send it in the mail. Better still - type it on a mechanical typewriter.

@bluetextonwhitebg That was not really my point. Did you read to the end of my comment...? It was about trying something once and it not working out so you give up and the fact that its even MORE important for you young people to really toughen up [not a pajorative] and get used to rejection cos life IS harder for you than it was for us. The default setting for life is FAILURE. You will fail 10 to 100 x more than you succeed, so you have just got to learn that people saying no and being horrible about it is just the norm. It ONLY matters how many people say yes. It was a general life point not a getting a job point.

@ChaosSwissroIl I replied agreeing with you - but it got deleted cos I suggested a DIFFERENT system and thats not allowed.

@bluetextonwhitebg Which bit of "its even MORE important for you young people to really toughen up [not a pajorative] and get used to rejection cos life IS harder for you than it was for us" did you not understand. "we've had to endure a hell of a lot more than you could ever imagine". I 100% guarantee I have endured more in my life than you will ever endure - just 3 years of my life were enough for a 100k word book...!!! ANd Im not a Boomer...!!!

@yeoremuthare677 1) so what if you get made fun of??? 2) why would your coworkers make fun of someone trying to get a job? what kind of weirdos do you work with? If it were my company Id sack your co-workers and hire the guy who came in off the street with his CV to be honest.

@bluetextonwhitebg Your uselessness has literally given me a headache

LITERALLY HOW I USED TO GET JOBS - walk up to the door or get the Yellow Pages out and start cold calling and if they liked you they would create a job for you...

MESSAGE FROM A BUSINESS OWNER to all the people in the comments OF COURSE my receptionist is going to tell you to apply online - THAT is the first test you have to pass...!!! When you get past my receptionist fobbing you off, and you have got my name. and you have made an appointment - all of which are available if you are clever and persistent - THEN I will see you and if you are good I will definitely call you when we have a job, If you are REALLY good I will make a job for you. So maybe try a bit harder - I know it's tough today so get tougher...!

@ChaosSwissroIl Dude - Im a communist - you are preaching to the converted...!!! But in the West [i dont live in the west any longer] lying, cheating and taking excessive risk - preferably with OTHER people's money, is very VERY highly rewarded...!!! My genuine advice to any young people in the West - GET OUT. Leave, make a life in a better country. The West is over, its down hill from here. You know only 5 countries use the credit score system. The rest of the world one missed payment 2 years ago does not stop you from getting an apartment or cost you 10% more on your car loan. Just an example of how oppressive it is in the G7

@bluetextonwhitebg You deserve less pay - you are pathetic. Sad little cry baby screaming at people on the Internet.

@randomobserver8168 THANKS - he really wound me up LOL

@lietkynes432 Im severely dyslexic - I coudl not read or write at 13 - do you normally mock peoples dissability??? Despire that I was worth €6 million at 42 and I have published 4 books and traveled in 55 coutnries - so maybe being able to spell "regection" correctly is not the be all and end all in life...???

@freakyskull516 You have to work out an answer to that that gets them to accept your CV or they pick up the phone to the boss. And when they accept your CV THEN you say "What day should I come back next week to get the responce?" to which they will say "Its OK we will contact you if we are interested" You say " Im not the sort of person to leave important things to chance like that, Ill come in person. Would Tuesday or Thursday be better" - they will pick one, "OK Ill come at 11am on Tuesday, can you please let, sorry what the person's name?" They will give you the name of the person they are giving it to. So now you have the name of the person RESPONSIBLE for hiring and a date and time for an appointment. So On Tuesday at 11 you arrive and say "Hello I have an appointment with MrEvil Capitalist about a potential job. Then you do this 200 times and hopefully you will have a great job at the end of it. "get told to apply online and shooed away". Thats the FIRST test you have to get through. Receptionists are literally told to say that and to mark the CV's of the ones who persist.

@robertjenkins6132 " You have to apply to an open position, a job posting on a website." God you guys are such lo5er5. Im normally very sympathetic to how incredibly hard it is for young people, and I am NOT a Boomer, but this thread is pathetic. Until I sold my company recently I WAS the guy hiring and if you had the gumption to get past my receptionist I would see you, and If you were worth it Id create a job for you. In 25 years of owning businesses, I never advertised a job once.

@CrizzyEyes You didn't read the whole comment did you...??? This is another very shocking thing to me about the replies I have received that 70% shot back at me before even reading the full comment, cos they know best and context does not matter. QUOTE “You have to learn to take regection [and I dont actually mean with Jobs] and keep going my man - cos you know what??? LIFE IS MORE DIFFICULT FOR YOU GUYS...!!! So its even more important that you get used to rejection and just keep going…!!!” Now you have been polite so I will be polite in return. You should have been taught in school, and most definitely in university, to never assume anything. I was not giving job-seeking advice. The comment was not about JOBS it was about LIFE. An employee of mine was supposed to check the use by dates on some products, they checked the first few hundred and they were all identical so they ASSUMED they were all the same and we shipped them half way across the world and that cost me €45,000 in 2012, thats like $100k today

@CrizzyEyes You didnt read the full comment did you...??? It was not about job advice.

@RedactedBrainwaves2 I dont own one now as I am retired. But I used to own quite a large cosmetics company. Before that I owned a construction company but the 2008 crash did for that. Before that I worked as an "Odd Job Man" which was surprisingly well paid and enjoyable, before that I owned a tropical fish shop which was surprisingly miserable - dont ever open a tropical fish shop is my advice...
