UNSCREW THE KNOB in the middle of your flywheel handle on the right - it will stop the mechanism from working whilst you wind the spool... At 5:03 you can see there is a hook sticking out of the cover plate [far left] - THIS is where the thread goes around and NOT the foot tensioner - for both bobbin winding and sewing

ACCESSORIES You can get Zig Zag stitch accessories for these machines - they wiggle the fabric not the needle. You can ALSO get BUTTONHOLE attachments and they are actually RALLY GOOD, they do a lovely button hole.

ITS REALLY FUNNY watching you getting used to the treddle action - I grew up using a treadle machine form the age of about 9 TIP - you are NOT running the machine with your foot back forth back forth, you are just ADDING a bit of energy to the machine each stitch to keep it running. So its much more of a PRESS to get it going and then, little push, little push with the toes - the pedal will rise up on its own, then just little push as it goes back down.
