  2. YES - believe it or not there is. Thr grinding created heat, the metal parts warm-up and that boils off some of the volatile oils in the coffee flavour. Hand grinding with cast iron is way better than those high speed wizzer things that do 12,000 RPM. But grinding with the stone that stays cold will actually taste slightly better - its marginal but if you had a blind taste test with your fave coffee you could probably tell the difference.
