@kollyoenchev5587 Thank you - a couple of points you mention I would like to comment on. I ONLY know Bulgarian people - I dont associate with Brits over here въпреки че българският ми е много лош. I don't know ANYONE on minimum wage, I also don't know anyone with a mortgage, so most people have OK lives. They are definitely nothing like as stressed about money as my friends in the UK.
BUT I live in Burgas which is quite cosmopolitan, so this is not necessarily representative of the whole country.
"In conclusion - I think we are moving forward the right way." I absolutely agree - I think Bulgaria is doing a very good job of modernising without AMERICANISING and I think ths is a very good thing. The UK tried to be a carbon copy of America and it has worked out very badly for them.
I think the best thing Bulgaria does is look after the children and young families. Again I can not speak nationally, but in Burgas kids under school age get food delivered to the door every day, kids get free school meals, schools are small and distributed so kids can all walk to school, the 3 age groups are next to each other so the older kids can walk the younger ones to school, there is a ratio of 1 child psychologist to every 300 kids in a school, kids learn to drive in little electric cars on proper road layouts from 5yr so they are good citizens on the road when they get a car, many schools have dorms for the kids to sta couple of nights a week to give the parents a break, almost every apartment block has a playground within 50 yards for the kids and they are in good condition, the old people look after the kids after work, no one uses child care here, leaving your kid in storage with a stranger whilst yo work is essentially considered child abuse here.
OH and you get [nearly] 2 years parental leave from work when you have a kid and university is very affordable.
Bulgaria seems to realise that children LITERALLY are the future and not an impediment to you working 60 hours a week - as they are seen in the USA and the UK
