I LIVE IN BULGARIA here every taxi is a DACIA Sandero or Logan They do 300,000 miles! And they do it reliably cos if they didn't - they would NOT be taxis. Taxis need to work. Are they cheap and plastic YES. But they will get you to work and back every day for less money than any other car for 15 years if you service it religiously. BTW - gearbox goes at 300k

@herrfister1477 - I think the words you are searching for are "I'm a massive snob". "Snob" is an unbelievably expensive thing to be, I know, I used to be one. My Mercedes CL600 was lovely, So was my Mercedes S500, the Lotus Elan, the Toyota Supra Twin turbo, and all the other 50 or so carts that I lost vast amounts of money on over the 30 years before I realised that a car is a tool, it gets you from A to B, preferably cheaply and reliably and anything more is clever people stealing your money because your tragic ego is too fragile to be seen in a modest car.

An accountant has just moved into a built to order £750k house next to my sister, he has 1 old Dacia he shares with his wife, my sister was expecting a Aston Martin

Here in Bulgaria every Taxi is a Dacia - they doo 400,000km and the gearbox brakes and they throw them away - thats 250,000 miles - thats pretty good for a dirt cheap car.

THE MORE YOU KNOW ABOUT CARS the more you have driven cars. The more cars you have bought - the more you gravitate towards wanting: Simplicity. Ease of repair. Reliability. Cost-effective. No gimmicks. Small wheels with big tires. Build quality. Quietness.

4) NO LED mood lighting - I'm not a Twitch-streeming gamer in his bedroom - I dont need purple wavy lighting.

@panchoivanov4409 - It had every issue known to man, It has a wiring loom fault and things just randomly stopped working, then they would start working again and as it was not a switch or a CPU and it was intermittent it was almost impossible to fix. I believe this is a common issue they develop in hot countries, ive been told it gets too hot at the back of the engine and breaks down the insulation on the wiring loom.

@panchoivanov4409 Yeah - apparently the V12's are really bad for it. Just a correction - mine was a CL55 AMG not SL. The coupe - I just make the correction as I don't know if the SL has the same issue and I don't want to mislead people. I kept meaning to get it fixed, but eventually, the council wanted to build a car park and wanted it moved, by this point, the suspension has sat itself on the floor, all the brakes were rusted on, I had covid at the time so it was just easier to give it away to a friend of a friend. They actually had to use lifting straps on the bucket of the excavator to pick it up and put it on the back of a transporter cos by this point they had started digging the carpark out so it was sat on a pedestal of land in what looked like a quarry LOL I worry that there wont be "classic cars" of the 2000 to 2020 range as they all have so many electronics that all go wrong, 1 1990 classic you can mend with wires and switches. what do you do with a 50 year old CL55AMG when a CPU stops working?

ONE OF MY NEIGHBOURS HAS A S650 MAYBACH it is such a disappointment - a masterclass is swapping gadgets and screens and mood lighting for quality. Part of the dash LOOKS like leather, but its actually molded rubber. The switches looks like chrome, but its chromed cheap plastic. Its what you would expect a Chinese copy of a REAL Maybach to be - only its a REAL €200k Maybach. The wheels are nice and the paint job is nice.

I live just outside a city - got rid of my Merc CL500 cos that was idiotic for me now. This would be 100% fine. Especially as the plastic interior and large passenger foot well would be GREAT for my dog, she would LOVE it.

THE MOST PERFECT CAR EVER MADE is the 1996 Mercedes W140 S-Class saloon 5.0L V8 It had enough electronics to be "modern". If had the best build quality of any car ever made bar NONE. It had enough power by plenty. It was silent. It was supremely reliable. it was repairable. It handled and rode brilliantly. If they re-made it as a special edition I would buy one and NEVER sell it. It would be my last ever car.

@panchoivanov4409 Unfortunately it does not work like that - we THINK it does, but it does not. The Ferrari 360 is strangely cheap and the reason is the engine control module is out of production and its a single chip that NO ONE makes any longer, there are lots of people with F 360's that they can't use cos they can't get the module for. One of the main reasons the Space Suttle was retired was the lack of availability of the chips, for 10 years they were taking them out of second-hand toys bought on eBay - that's not a joke. I mean for some things yeah you will be able to do a work around, but the cars with the highest collectability are the rarest models and they will have the lost availability of spare chips. What I think you might see is "full electronic rip outs" If in 2040 you have a SL55 AMG and it does not work cos a module went fzzzt - you will rip ALL the electronics out and replace it with a 3rd party universal system wont you?

To me it looks like a DB5 for 2030

@mrguest3749 - The thing is - ALL electric cars will and up looking like this cos its the best way to achieve "vortex shedding"

@123Comrade - Ive seen a few off road MX-5's they look a hell of a lot of fun...

@Hi-vy9lu - You should have your eyes pulled out, they are all ugly as sin...
1
@Undisputed_King - That would be a huge problem if they were made or sold to be practical. As they are fast art - its not a problem.

I gave one away about 18 months ago - it had sat outside unused [here in Bulgaria] so long the council put a sticker on it saying they would crush it if I didn't move it. 2002, white with biscuit leather and 88k miles on it.

IF THIS TEST IS FOR AMERICA with an average-sized person - shouldn't the dummy weigh 300lb...???

OIL CANNING is a term owners are going to become VERY familiar with in the next year
1
@dyawr - Yeah cos they know it signals the beginning of the end - they are Dacia Sandero or Logan. Maybe the newer models will be different - but they are not yet getting old - maybe they will do 800k km ?
1
@dyawr - dude what a pathetic POS you are. Grow the f-uk up. My best friend is a taxi driver, my next-door neighbour is a taxi driver our car park is 30% taxies - I KNOW what Bulgarian taxi drivers do. You are a sad pathetic nobody on the internet screaming into the void like a baby - go away and grow the f-uk up. Im literally saying they are good cars - even the old Dacias THAT's THE POINT YOU SAD BABY. BTW Im English.
