  1. 15 years ago I moved to Bulgaria - an ex-communist country. You could buy communist-era anything for a few cents. Not now. People are now sick of the modern plastic sh!t breaking after 2 weeks or 6 months. The old communist-era appliances are now highly sought after. They are simple, they are well made, the parts are still available and every high street has a guy in a kiosk who will repair it for you for €3. I do tailoring as a hobby so I have several 1960's steam irons, they all work. I was buying a modern iron every 6 months.

We need to remove the profit motive for making crap that gets thrown in a landfill in 6 months. The best thing about the communist stuff is its ALL dated. So you know the month your mop bucket was made - mine 1975. Its a plastic mop bucket, turns out plastic can be made to last and not go brittle and break. I have a fan with soft rubber blades, it was made in 1962 the rubber is still soft and flexible and the fan still works fine. We CHOOSE to make disposable crap to make more profit and with 8 billion people we HAVE TO STOP. I dont buy anything new now unless I have to, I always look for 2nd had communist-era things, I'm 52 and 95% of it will outlast me...
