I live in Bulgaria now - we have a flat rate 10% tax on EVERYTHING. company car - 10%. Dividends 10%. Increase in wealth 10%. No need for expensive accountants, no matter which column you put it in - its 10%. The low paid get a rebate - the rich pay 10% on EVERYTHING. We manage to run the country on 10%. Which shows you how little the rich in the UK REALLY pay!!! We have 25% national debt to GDP ratio and we have highly paid teachers and nurses and actual new hospitals.

@bandit2048 "The uk government is not there for it's people" THAT is the thing that it took me ages to get used to. Society here is designed for THE PEOPLE. Not for profit, not for cost savings. For the people who live there. The two things that highlight this to me are 1) Fruit trees, the cities are filled with thousands of fruit trees - why? FREE FRUIT. We all get 4 months of unlimited free fruit 2) its the law here that a shop has to sell you 1 of a thing out of a pack for 1/x the cost. So if you want 1 razor blade they will sell you 1 for 1/5th the cost of the pack of 5. And they do. You can buy 1 Elastoplast, 1 tide pod to wash your clothes. There is no premium for being poor. you CAN design a city for the people - and this is a hang over from the communist days...

@Durram258 - The BBC just this second published the figures for UK spending - HMRC, Treasury cost £105 Billion a year and national debt interest was £120 Billion. If you have a flat rate 10% tax and 25% debt to GDP ratio you can remove 80% of that cost. collecting tax with a flat rate is incredibly cheap, and having a very low national debt is very cheap. JUST these two costs above cost every working person in the UK £6,818 each per year - thats almost the same as the NHS and social care... If you are not paying for all these past mistakes and corruption you can have nice things - like new busses.
