Im an English author on psychology living in Bulgaria now and to me its incredibly obvious why the USA has this problem: 1) Pathetic level of education 2) Abandonment by the political class for decades 3) Car culture - no one ever walks anywhere, talks to people, interacts with others - everyone is totally isolated 4) Consumerism - defining your lives by what you buy. Its ultimately nihilistic even for those with the money TO buy plastic crap from China 5) Hyper individualism; if you are a failure its YOUR FAULT 6) Pandemic 7) and not least - Facebook The USA is a place of isolated disaffected people who NEVER socially interact with a cross-section of society; if anyone. So people are utterly desperate for meaning in their lives and community. "Everyone worships, and the reason to worship some kind of God or spiritual force is pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive"

@georgefurman4371 - I could not agree more; to be honest I think the USA is in for a very hard time. BUT I think it will emerge from it a better more equal nation. According ot the book "the 4th turning" America is entering the 4th turning - the collapse phase. But every collapse is followed by a rebirth in an 80 - 100 year cycle. And Gen Z are amazing; they are so creative, they are so organised, they are so far left it really will terrify the establishment. They are a very different people. Technology is not magic to them like it is to us. consumerism is not new and special to them like it was to us. I have literally seen teens the last week playing with the medieval cup and ball game. they will be the ones that rebuild - and they will do a good job of it. But there are some tough times ahead for the UK and the USA.

@georgefurman4371 - You are most welcome. Change has to start at the top; the bottom is fragmented and despondent. The government HAS to get money out of politics and to start working for the PEOPLE of America. Why would you believe in government if government has done nothing for you in your lifetime...??? ID object to paying taxis if I saw nothing for it. But instead, I have a brand new entirely FREE hospital being built literally 400 yeards from me, and brand new roads and great subsidised public transport... I have a REASON to believe in the unity of society and in government - as imperfect as ours is.
