My sister bought a very expensive house that she could not actually afford but really wanted for the land for her horses when she was about 23. So this would be the early 1990's. She took it on a 30-year mortgage to afford it and it was a variable rate at base rate +0.5%. Which was standard in the UK back then cos the interest rate was like 9.5%. She has been laughing the last few years - she pays basically NO interest.

@tamarabartolo9185 - it is one of those weird dichotomies. The stock market is not tied to the economy, but the economy is tied to the stock market - its a one way steet in a bad way.
