Ive seen a real-life video of a child getting off a bus and running in front of a Volvo truck with a loaded trailer and it STOPS. In your head you know the kid is toast and the truck just STOPS in what looks like an impossible distance. I have no idea how many lives have been saved by this technology.

AND THIS IS WHAT THE 100% TARRIFS on Chinese cars is about - the jobs will still be lost to automation - but in 20 years Am3ric4ns will be paying $200k for an F-150 wiht the same engine and chassis as they have today. Im ALL for saving jobs, but tarrifs are NOT about saving jobs they are about protecting proffits

@JayR607 THE MOST AM3RIC4N COMMENT EVER - make my life harder so I get paid more, cos I could never consider having a union who fought for me or a society that valued me. Me and my colleagues could starve the entire country into doubling out wages but Id rather my work just be so diffiult most people could never think of doing it. Jeez - this is why I would NEVER consider living in Am3rc4.

@darkknight8139 The one I saw was different - I could clearly see it was a Volvo truck - but otherwise it was exactly the same. But I mean that is just ASTONISHING isn't it - that child gets to live a full and happy life for ONE reason only - the automated emergency braking system on that truck. It should be mandatory on all news trucks.

@samhartford8677 The thing that I am increasingly realising as I get older is the LONG TERM survival, let alone prosperity, of a country / block depends on two / three things. 1) EDUCATION - you have to educate your population, the US and the UK [my home country] just stopped doing that - only the wealthy get good education 2) R&D - the government has to fund lots of "science for science sake" type R&D and they have to incentivise companies to do specific R&D 3) HEALTH - you need a healthy population to actually do the work, they need to be slim, fit, happy and healthy You can ignore all this for 10, 20, 30 years but in the end - it will and your empire

THIS MAY SOUND SOFT But Im at the point I just want Am3ric4ns to have better "stuff" - its like all the corporations and the governments got together and decided to stop improving ANYTHING 30 years ago - but just keep jacking up the price 11 African countries have high speed rail and you guys in Am3ric4 are going to work in a $100k truck built on 1990's technology driving on 1970's roads.

I HAVE NO DOG IN THIS FIGHT Im European but Im not into trucks - I know nothing about them - the Am3ric4n truck looks SO backwards, its what I would expect from the 1950's

And 80 year old guy in my town, who everyone knew cos he was about on his bike all the time, he got unlived this way and it was NOT quick - absolutely terrible. I wont even describe it here - so so sad

This is the problem with them putting 100% tariffs on Chinese cars. It wont save jobs, they will STILL be automated away - Americans will just have to pay $100k for outdated junk

@farzana6676 Only NO. Most of that GDP is just national debt spending, the rest of it is inflation-causing distortion. You pay $100k for a pickup truck we pay €40k. I saw a loaf of bread in New York is $5 - its €1 - €2 here. If everything costs 2X as much and GDP is measured in $USD its GOING to be higher isnt it??? China has a trade volume that dwarfs the USA - Like for Like the Chinese economy is 2X the size of the US. But a Chinese car costs $10k in China. THEN you have the fact that the bottom 50% of the US is basically economically inactive cos they have NO money. Im. no fam of either US party - but Bidens administration basically fake the US economic figures. You know that $800 billion of goods are returned each year to online shops and that counts for $1.8 trillion of GDP. YOU buy it, then the SHOP buys it back of you so it counts 2X but $0 of value is added. So much of the US economy is dependent on the belief that the US is NO1 that no one can ever admit its not or everything just collapses.
