  1. MY GRANDMOTHER lived in Wakefield - she took in 2 Jewish refugees in c1940, this made her very unpopular at the time "there goes the neighbourhood" was the attitude It changes later and she was the hero of the neighbourhood. But the hypocrisy of people was the story we were told as kids.

I DISAGREE WITH YOU TIM I think the UK 2023 is VERY similar to Germany in 1930's - a country in a crisis of its own making blaming immigrants for the problems of the nation, introducing draconian laws against them in an attempt to win/hold onto power... NO ONE in Germant voted to gas the immigrants, they just wanted "sensible common sense laws to protect the country and jobs" - I thnk the similarities are shockingly close.
