HERE IN BULGARIA the electricity has not gone up 1p in this energy crisis, Bulgaria is a net exporter of electricity and the EXPORT price has to offset the domestic price and VV. So when it skyrocketed for you, that subsidised our bills. I think a similar thing should be introduced for basic food items in supermarkets - there should be say 200 staple foods that HAVE to be subsidised by the 200 most profitable foods >> If they need to put up basic spaghetti by 5p - actually they put up the organic avocadoes by 5p. People who buy organic avocadoes dont notice 5p. The basics should not be allowed to go up more than wages or inflation which ever is the lowest.

@paulroberts7544 Well no - cos the top 200 most profitable products would rotate wouldn't they. Lets assume the sale of organic avocados reduced cos the price was creeping too high they would drop off the list of most profitable and be replaced by Alaskan Smoked Salmon or something. "Those involved in producing those goods would go out of business." na - food manufacturers are global businesses. And the top 50% of society economically can buy the home brands today BUT DONT, that is a choice based on personal taste, perceived quality and ethics - they are not making a financially constrained decision. Here in Bulgaria bus fairs are 60p no matter how far you go or how many busses it takes. So yes the people who go 1` sop subsidise the person who has to go 12km to work but it means that people can afford to take a job the other side of the city and everyone pays 60p "to get to work" So what's your solution to the fact they 30% of the UK population cant afford 3 meals a day...???
