GENUINE QUESTION TIM how many miles do YOU live from London...??? Its not 250 is it??? Its a nice convenient distance somewhere near Oxford which is particularly well serviced by the M40 because most of the govt and cabinet secretaries WENT to Oxford over the last 70 years. Of course, YOU think HS2 should be cancelled - I think it should be extended to HS3 to Edinburgh and HS4 to Glasgow - and sorry to say it - we should just get the French to build it cos Britain is no longer capable of building large projects - we no longer have the experience or the large companies to do it

@brianperry - OH God it was wasn't it - we live in a perpetual episode of Yes Minister now - we even had the Eurosaussage if you remember.

@normhanson981 - well I thnk his heart is in the right place - But I feel he would have a different view if he had to live in Leeds and travel to London for his TV appearances - or God forbid - Newcastle...

@normhanson981 -OH Im from that area - the villages just south of York, my sister lives at Beverly now but Im in Bulgaria for 14 years. GREAT public transport and our first high speed rail opening up this year. Its cost £100 billion for HS2 - BOO HOO - Brexit has cost £100 billion PER YEAR

@normhanson981 I used to live at Ellerton. I now live in Burgas and the high-speed rail will link Burgas to Sofia. TBH - I dont like Sofia, but thats just me, most people like it.

@saabsonsan - I live in Bulgaria - the public transport here is so good I gave away my Mercedes CL500 cos I was just not using it. YES I chose to use the bus and the bike lanes over a Merc CL500 cos it was just cheaper and way more convenient. When the cost of petrol skyrocketed last year the city increased the number and frequency of busses - using it as an opportunity.
