I READ A THING THAT CHANGED MY OPINION TOTALLY a guy asked on Quora what it was like to do a. long time in prison - the person replying did 18 years... He said "at first its horrible and then you get used to it, after about 5 years you will institutionalise and you will stop thinking of it as anything other than 'your life' you will live your life as if its a normal life. You will come to LIKE the security, the lack of responsibility, the routine. You will be more scared of your release date than you are the sentence". PRISON DOES NOT WORK Short sentences destroy lives forever so are totally disproportionate, long sentences stop being a punishment after about 5 years. The wives and children suffer MORE than the convicted person but are innocent. If you are a danger to society you need psychiatric help in a secure facility. Everyone else should be part of restorative justice program.

@zuluwarrior1648 - THANK You - I cant really take credit, it had to be explained to me for me to realise it. We put people in prison to make OURSELVES feel better.
