DID THEY GET THE VOTE on having access to your bank account if you receive ANY government benefit...??? So that includes pension, child support, Job seekers, Income support, and university fee contributions - so basically the only people it won't cover are wealthy men aged 22 to 65

@chrism7969 Yes I am severely dyslexic and could not read or write at 13, but now 50% my income comes from the books I have written, I LOVE good use of language. Im just reading A Christmas Carol 1st edition [ebook] and oh my god its good. "Awaking in the middle of a prodigiously tough snore" was the highlight of my morning reading.

I have little hope for the Labour government except they wont be actually evil or actively trying to destroy the country. That alone will be a massive change.

@chrism7969 OH I wil tell you what I read as well - "The Road to Wigan Pier" by Orwell - and an account of life in the working towns of the North in 1935. The shocking thing is how we are closer to day to 1935 than we are 1995...! The only difference really is the coal dirt / soot, the lack of running hot water. The social problems are identical.

@chrism7969 O h no the writing is pretty crap, but the insight into the life them I thought was amazing. "China perfectly., the corruption and the everybody against everybody nature of that society." Thats really interesting cos I have spoken to a lot of people in china and that is not the impression I get, maybe like the UK, it very much depends on your social class and location...??? Im sure the residents of Chipping Nortion would not be talking about the cost of living crisis... I've started reading older books for the inadvertent insight they give into life in the past, I just finished Tom Browns Schooldays, the book that JK Rowling "ripped off" for Harry Potter. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

@chrism7969 Most of the people I know or have spoken to are Chinese, but they are not in business. They are either academics or just workers/artisans. I suppose like all countries - experiences may vary. My next book is to be an ironic look at the UK taken to its natural conclusion. Its called 1930 as a working title. The UK has voted to leave the modern world and indeed time - it will live forever in 1930 with steam trains and compulsery cricket on Sundays. The population is divided into the descendants of those who owned rental property in 2020 and through a logical extension of the system now own ALL property and the rest of society who are born into serfdom of a 200 year rental contract. Meanwhile, America has become "The United Corporations Of America" where slavery is legal again in the anarco-capitalist hell hole and the rest of the world is run by China where everything works perfectly, they have solved climate change and nuclear fusion, cities are perfect, no one wants for anything BUT every minute of your day is controlled by the system. It tells you when to walk, where to go, what to eat, it organises meetings with your friends, tells you when to go to the gym, everything. Its all done for maximum health and happiness - but you have zero say in your life. The book is MOSTLY about the UK the rest is background. But the basic concept is what is freedom - each of the three societies thinks they have freedom. Brexit style freedom, for the UK, capitalist freedom for America and freedom from work and worry for the rest of the Chinese world.
