That was my first thought, but they would not provide THAT much rigidity and an aluminium U would do just as well and deform just as easily - It must be for "centring"

@bitwise_8953 - Yeah its astonishingly efficient cos you are heating the metal you are working on ONLY. But you are not hitting the heated steering wheel with a hammer so thats not an analogy. Heating the steering wheel wiht resistive load would be more efficient BUT... If you heated the metal segments with induction they would THEN stay warm for an hour or two and the insulating white plastic would allow a controlled release of that heat... THAT would be a clever solution

@bitwise_8953 - this would make sense and be clever - and if it was one long bar it would be a big magnate - not good around electronics, hence segments
