14 MILLION PEOPLE IN ABSOLUTE POVERTY IN THE UK the UN have said the UK is breaking international LAW as its failing to provide for the basic needs of its citizens in a country perfectly capable of doing so...!!! Its the highest since Victorian times.

THERE IS A FIELD NEAR MY SISTER I worked out you could build a town of 110,000 normal-density houses on it, or 250,000 high-density homes. JUST ONE FIELD - its just north of the M62, you could put a train / tram and have it connect to the Hull - Leeds train line. You could house 500,000 people and it would inconvenience basically NO ONE.

@philiptaylor7902 I would NEVER advocate for suburbs expanding. Either designed towns with vision and purpose - Ironically Pripyat was a perfect example. It was a town for young families and scientist / engineers for the Chornobyl power plant. I actually live in a communist apartment block in a communist city and sat what you want about the communists - they knew city planning...!!! I have never felt more like I live in a village than here - and I literally lived ina village in the UK...! The other thing they do here is they redevelop large building plots with one ot two big houses into an apartment block with 50 apartments - this is definitely something we could do in the UK. Densify the suburbs. If apartments are done correctly they are GREAT - the UK is just really really BAD at doing apartments.

@philiptaylor7902 Yeah its a pretty big field, like 400 acre or something. I got looking cos the stats are that 8% of Britain is urbanised. 40% is private estates of the 1%...!!! But you never get to see them cos not roads run through them. So I thought I would have a look at just HOW empty Britain is on google maps - and it IS...!!! You drive from one built up bit down a road probably lined with houses and then a bit of country lane to another town. But there are GIANT areas between one road and the next that are just massive fields of woodland, of just uncultivated land. So I just found the biggest field and measured it and divided it by housing density for starter homes and high-density homes. Lets say I am over-optimistic by 4 X - its still 75,000 apartments on ONE field. The point is - we CAN build homes for people if we want to.

@sloine-q5l You can put a dual carriageway to the M62, Rail link as said. Obviously it will need a sewage plant etc, but you just build it. Its a TOWN of 500k people you BUILD the doctors and the hospital and the shops. Jobs - yo put in fibre optic 1Gb internet and you make it a "work from home" town. Build 20 new "work from home" towns - make them 15 minute "cities" - p[ublic transport, max of 1 car per household and definitely discouraged. Lots of trees and green spaces lots of little local high streets. HAVE SOME VISION...!!!
