AS MUCH AS IT PAINS ME TO DO IT I have to stand up for supermarkets here - A LOT of food in the UK is sold BELOW what it costs to manufacture / grow / produce This is a combination of supermarkets pressurising farmers and manufacturers, supermarket loss leaders on stuff like baked beans etc and promotions. The problem in the UK is definitely NOT expensive food - its LOW WAGES.

@kevinwillis6707 - I agree with every word. believe it or not Karl Marx predicted exactly this 150 years ago. Wages would be artificially subsidised by industrialised food production and cheap goods manufactured in the cheapest country on earth. Meanwhile the only thing of true value - land and property - would continue to rise and form a larger and larger part of a houses expenditure in late stage cpaitlaism.

Sadly for some morons, Sovereign Tea is a necessity and any price is worth paying.

@stephenthomas3085 - I 100% agree with you. I made a LOT of money being an Amazon seller - but it was at the expense of my mental health. By contrast in lockdown here in Bulgaria the very busy little high streets we have near each group of apartment blocks I feel SIGNIFICANTLY contributed to the fact we dont have anything life the mental health problems the UK has post lockdown. Some day the 2 minutes just talking through a mask to the shopkeeper in broken Bulgarian was the only thing that kept me going. I am firmly of the opinion that VAT on online sales should be increased to 25% and VAT on in stoor purchases from small independent shops should be reduced to 10% or even zero to REFLECT the face that a shop is MORE than just a place to buy stuff. Especially for old and disabled people, lonely people, poor people, a shop is a VITAL RESOURCE. They are part of a community and they should be recognised.

@miakeogh6844 - Yeah - my comment kinda sounded like I was praising them. I was not. What I am saying is "supermarkets are not to blame for the cost of living crisis - they are doing everything to keep the cost of food crazy low INCLUDING screwing farmers and producers"

@stephenthomas3085 - YEP - I used to be a "gold level" seller on Amazon selling over $6 million a year. Amazon endlessly push sellers to undercut other sellers - to the point they go bust. Amazon does not care - cos their competition is mom and pop independent stores. There will always BE another seller to replace the Amazon one that went bust and Amazon dont care if you sold X at 20% loss. They still got 35% or 45% of the sale price. These large companies - their goal is to put the independent shops out of business. Thats why Amazon started next day delivery - no one asked for it, but they knew independent stores could NOT offer this. Amazon Prime bankrupted 11 MILLION mom and pop stores in the USA.
